30mm Right sight
Do many people use the 30mm Rightsight? I have one on my target rifle and I love it apart from one thing! The bar that holds the adjustable iris in place keeps rotating clockwise! I bought the plastic jawed grips that the manufacturer recommends and I set the bar to be horizontal when the spirit level bubble is in the right place, but it is slowly rotating out of position. It's not a big deal so long as you watch the bubble level, but it drives me nuts! Is there a fix for this?
Never take good advice, if you think you know better.

I have a few of sets of the Riles version (very similar).North Star wrote:Do many people use the 30mm Rightsight? I have one on my target rifle and I love it apart from one thing! I've had problems with several items coming unscrewed under the rotational impulse resulting from spinning up the bullet. First I used nail varnish, but when I later used acetone to free it up (to remove the lens for cleaning) I frosted the spirit level. This season I've used the weakest grade of lock-tite. It's annoying, because it is a discouragement to dismantle it for lens cleaning.
I've also marked each item with an orange paint blob, so I can immediately see if anything has come out of alignment. This includes a mark on the lens at 6 o'clock which is visible in the sight picture (although you probably don't have that problem, as I think your lens is indexed). I set mine up so that the optical deviation of the lens is only in the vertical direction, so that if the lens is removed in an emergency (due to fogging or rain) then the wind zero remains the same (only the elevation will change).
I just wish that all the threads on the front side of the sight were reverse threads, then these problems wouldn't occur.
Does anything press against the front face of your iris, such that tightening would have any effect?
I have seen some sights with spacers in the tubes, so that tightening the front locking ring causes some pressure against the iris body, but that was mainly to stop that model of iris from coming apart altogether.

Re: 30mm Right sight
I have two RightSights. I removed the lenses supplied by Wayne from within and use a screw-in lens and shade system from Shooting Sight (Art Neergard on this forum).
With regards rotation, I set up my rifle to be level using a spirit level on the action then set the barrel band and sight to show the internal level to be level. You can then adjust the horizontal bar to be level 'by eye'. You'll be surprised how accurate your eye can be for level when viewing the target. I use a pindrop of 'weak' blue Locktite to secure the ring.
Hope this helps

Re: 30mm Right sight
I did receive a reply back from the manufacturer (Wayne Forshee) and he tells me that he never did figure out why these things turn! His cure for the problem was to add a drop of Elmers glue to the thread! Perhaps I'll try that when the snow flies?

I use a Riles sight (similar to the RightSight but better build quality IMHO.) I glue the damn thing in place with nail vanish!North Star wrote:Do many people use the 30mm Rightsight?
