Simply hedging my bets.... I've made Jeff an offer. Hopefully, he'll come up with the six numbers on the lottery and just to p*** you off, sells me the said Tikka for the princely sum of 100 pounds....

I like Ruger, I like them a lot. But I'm not sure I'll be in for a Precision Rifle. Don't know why and there's no reason why it should, but it just leaves me cold. I suppose just the way saddlers other half, Andy, feels when one of those Shrek like ears appears round the edge of the door way too long before the edge of his head does....

I personally do not like that new precision rifle from ruger.... It looks cheap and tacky,and a lot like a last minute desperate solution to try and get more sales in......the lines on it are in touch only with that of a space ship and the bareel with its gentle taper looks like a black carrot.....the barrell shroud has a what looks like a handcuff key slot surrounded by teacher ticks in your exercise book.....and it's only a bolt action!!!

The adjustable button looks vile but I'm sure is very functional,no thought given to the standard m4 grip......and the graphics/decals just look so "oh put em there that will do" aaarggh

Not my cup of tea.....I own 3 ruger 77 and they are magical.... This is to me just utterly vile.....but it's going to be put through its paces now it's available......Ile look forward to a review.....

That's an extremely generous offer, can I have several years to think about it as it's obviously going to be a very difficult decision?

Is the 6.5 better than the 308 at 1000 yards plus and is the 6.5 a barrel burner ?

Yes and no (in that order) :)

Not according to a site I saw yesterday... I watched the video and quite fancy one of those, but then researched 6.5 C as I know nothing about it.

One of the sites did say it was a barrel burner, and barrels last a couple of thousand rnds less than .308...

Skimmed through most of that thread and it says the 6.5C has less drop and windage shift at 1000yds than the .308 which is what most other articles I've read say about it.

As for barrel burning, it's horses for courses, long distance shooters pushing hot loads will sometimes change barrels at 1000 rounds or less, 6.5C factory ammo should give a life of 2-3000 rounds before noticeable wear, 308's pushed with hotter loads for 1000+yds may get 3-5000 rounds, depending on how much you shoot that could be 3 to 5 years worth of shooting.

This isn't meant to be an FTR long distance target rifle, it's a mid range fun rifle in 3 popular calibres, choose the calibre that suits your needs, I went for the 6.5C as I have a 260Rem and like the way it shoots, less recoil than my .308s and as I only have one good shoulder left I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible :)
