They are not "free" you pay for them with your certification fees.

I'd go a step further and say nothing is free in this world. Somebody always pays. Aint no such thing as a free lunch.

South Yorks want the right form using, as should all departments to be honest :-) just put what you want rid of and what you want to replace it with. I have a template with all the other details filled in already

I am going to be phenomenally blunt here....

You've been shooting a while now, you have your own certificate and firearms and have managed to a mass nearly 1700 posts in a few months...

Print off the 2015 Guidance to Police and a consolidated Firearms Act, and read them. BASC website has downloads.

As dromia points out daily, the search facility on this site is really quite good.

And always remember, some people talk because they have to say something, other people talk because they have something to say....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Better to burn out than to fade away? lol

Sorry that was too obvious. I'm also of the opinion its better to ask for help that to still be wondering later on. And a person who doesn't make a mistake never makes anything. But thanks for the advice everyone. Incidentally the Guidance and all that would have come in real handy for something I had to deal with earlier on this year.

Also I'm still calling to ask the department when I've sold the firearm in question and want the one for one variation. I'll also make sure its absolutely clear what I'm hearing. Anyway I've checked the S Yorks website too and they list one for one's. Its better than ponying up another £20. Might have a think about what I want to have the slot changed too. Either the same caliber or a new one that is the question 8-) ?

That is exactly my point. You are involved in a sport that is highly regulated with convoluted legislation, the majority of are, strict liability offences. I'm afraid if something so basic has previously passed you by, there may be glaring holes in your knowledge.

I understand that, to be fair I already knew what one was in a way, but needed some confirmation. I do follow the conditions of my cert to the letter and have defaulted to ask questions when I feel something might not seem right. To be fair its amazing what I do learn like certain expanding ammo being ok to possess for a tube mag fed rifle due to it feeding better in the guidance. I know at the least some quirky things like I don't have to carry my cert when travelling with my guns but the police can request to see it, contradictory yes, but the mental gymnastics tells me the easy and not cause any trouble option is carry it.

I think in hindsight I should have asked is it worth it go for a one for one than to put in a new variation, especially as I'm not sure what I actually want?

Off topic I actually did get thinking about a court case Gaz mentioned on his blog about Flash eliminators being licensed parts in a certain court case relating to a deact, does that mean one day all muzzle devices including a thread protector could suffer this fate? Who knows. Its convulated yes, but I have the things I need down. Always send paperwork for renewals off in time, have a correct safe (one of the best bratton sound), keep ammo seperate (though Shotgun ammo at least spread stuff and not slugs doesn't need to be locked up separate), Keep firearms in a case when travelling, dont have them loaded except where I'm shooting. And the definitions in the firearms act such as section 1, section and section 5 are pretty much clear as day. If I'm not sure of something, I consult BASC who I'm a member of's website and if that isn't satisfactory call BASC and see if their legal eagle's can point me in the right direction. So far I've just been a paper puncher and kinda due to a desire for routine been unsure about doing stuff like 1 for 1's. I know they're the way to do things, just not wanted to do them as daft as that sounds Sim. I've also not wanted to shoot on private land after vermin as I've had no need to, but would make sure I knew everything I needed to know. For now I'm happy doing what I'm doing and will leave it there for now. I know what to do if someone I know dies (and this did happen) with a firearm and that is call the police and request a temporary cert (my dad did for a neighbour with a shotgun who died).

If you don't know what you want in your own mind how do you think anyone can advise you?.When I applied for my FAC and have done subsequent one-for-ones I have known exactly what I want.

Good point. I'll go and have a long hard think.
