Cast boolit rifle calibers.
I'm off shooting to morrow its a 500/600 yard range this is my maximum shooting distance. I'm re loading for two of us now a days I have introduced a pal to shooting he is currently working through his probationary membership and loving it.
Any way I'm also getting him involved in the dark art of reloading. So to day we/he neck sized 100 6.5x55 and 100 .308 once fired cases using LeWilson dies and a arbor press. He then reprimed the cases using a hand held priming tool. I then took them home and filled them with powder and seated a new bullet in each one. He will be shooting them to morrow.
Its proving rather expensive getting this new guy into shooting. I checked my stock levels I am down to the bone on powder and bullets.
Any way I had a thought I shoot for fun I don't give a toss about tiny groups I'm thinking may be a cast boolit in a modern type firearm not a Enfield or a Mauser a scoped bolt action in a calibre that will do the business out to 60 yards with a cast boolit. any suggestions.

Re: Cast boolit rifle calibers.
That should read 600 yards not 60 yards I need to read my posts before submitting them.

I've shot sub-sonic 308 at 100yds using cast & gas checked 162gr Loverin boolits using 9gr of TrailBoss, gives around 1060fps from my 24" Steyr. They worked pretty well but a couple of them keyholed through the target so double check before using a moderator with any loads.
Just read the update.
Sub-sonic no go at 600yds, I'm sure Adam and Roger shoot cast at that sort of distance, for me it's about the same cost as I get my Noslers from Germany for under 20p a bullet and with my stock of Lovex at £30-£35/Kg it's not too expensive to use full jacketed loads.

I looked at replenishing my powder stock Vitavouri is currently £75 a kilo. Shocking I'm seriously thinking about finding a cheaper hobby. They are just taking the pee now.

If you know anyone who can collect it HPS have Viht in 3.5Kg containers for £220, £62.86/Kg or Steve at Barbican is listing it at £32.50/lb, £71.50/Kg.
If you want to try it I can let you have a couple of Kg of Lovex D073.5 for £35/Kg ?

Re: Cast boolit rifle calibers.
Almost any rifle will shoot cast accurately out to 600 yards, I would just stay away from the 6.5 Swedish. It will perform but needs cosseting during loading.
Have a look at Harris's article on cast bullets in military rifle in the library for loads, it should just be called cast bullets in rifles as it is more about calibres than the actual rifles.
I use N110 or N120 as powders of choice and they are available in the region at a lot less than those prices quoted, also these powders go further as you are only using around 20 gns of powder.

Re: Cast boolit rifle calibers.
I shoot 195g lead bullets (RCBS mould and gas checked) in front of 16g of Alliant 2400 through my 308 but so far only at 200 and 300 yards. They give about 1550fps so not subsonic and about 1 -1.5 MOA accuracy if I'm having a good day.
I believe Andy Alwood of Alwood Stocks and Mouldings (Bracknell based) shoots lead out to 500/600 yards so would be a good point of contact for load data etc.

He needs to go no further than these forums, this subject has been done to death on here.
Quite a few of the F-BUK members shoot lead regularly out to 600 yards and beyond with accuracy and have posted at length about it on here
Funny how the search function seems to be too much trouble for people, very post modern, instant gratification behaviours.
