Dealer shops LBR owner to police over loose balance rod

A registered firearms dealer reportedly called the police on one of his customers after discovering a loose balance rod on the man’s Taurus long barrelled pistol.

times a 100. Would it have been alot simpler just to have fixed a better rod on and not have involved the law? Surely at times we're our own worst enemies.

It was a tired & confused R.F.D. that decided a Mosin Nagant rifle with attached bayonet was sufficiently dangerous to involve the Police, due to the inherent evil nature of pointy stabby things = all such Mosins are deemed valid firearms to own in Scotland on FAC, but if you take them out of the house to use on a range then you are breaking the law!

If this actually happened lets have hard facts and the reasons why the RFD reported the problem.

Considering how much time the staff of the Sportsman Association spend in court i doubt they'd publish the article without checking the facts first.

WTF was the dealer thinking And surely the dealer should get done as well as he was in possession of the gun at the time and possession of a S5 gun is an absolute offence!?

I have 2 questions -

1, Did the dealer give it back to the owner because if he did, surely he is supplying a section 5 firearm ( if it was that loose )

2, So, this answers my question on another thread re a permanently attached muzzle brake falling off, I guess.

Although...... what is the difference between a LBR with a balance rod that could come off, (AW "considered it would fall off..."... doesn't say it actually did..), and taking your 12 1/2 inch barrelled 10/22 out of its stock for normal cleaning.

Both have to conform with the 30/60cm rule in normal use, but under certain circumstances can exist under 60 cm OAL.

As I understand it, the important point is "can it be used when in its temporary shorter configuration".

I would argue that without a pistol grip it would be impracticable to use it.
