Tumbling bullet in long barreled pistols

One of the lads at the club has a 357 long barrelled revolver and is using pistol load home loaded ammo which at 10 metres is tumbling.
It seems to work fine with wad cutters, is it the same scenario as with a rifle where the twist and to heavy a bullet weight causing tumbling?

If he is using cast then it sounds like poor bullet fit.

No, that's unlikely to be the problem. Bullets of weight 140gr to 180gr work well in my LBR, and others report the same.

Details of the bullet used, together with load data, an image (or description) of the nature of the tumbling would help too. Does the load tumble at all distances, or just 10m?

three possible reasons why a bullet tumbles after leaving the barrel:

* The bullet's base is cockeyed and gas escapes off one side before the
other as it leaves the muzzle.

* Something really unbalanced the bullet as it was going down the bore.
After exiting the muzzle, it tumbles.

* The bullet is spinning way too slow as it leaves the muzzle; it won't
gyroscopically stablize. Or it's spinning too fast; its natural
unbalance creates enough centrifugal force to cause it to tumble.
