Re: Sections of What???

#31 Post by ordnance »

Is the 1911 really that bad to carry? I know things have moved on over the years, but that being that bad I wonder if it can be that possible? Then again the 1911 seems to fall under love it or loathe it these days.
It's an old design not as reliable as some more modern handguns out there. Polymer framed handgun are much more comfortable to carry. PS It doesn't have to be a Glock, most manufacturers make polymer models. As for here if it was a 1911 it would have to be a 9 MM version, as 9MM is the largest calibre allowed for Personal protection. One of these would be on my list.

I like the look of the SP-01 a bit more Ordnance. And Lets just say its a British Isle but not Northern Ireland I'd likely end up in.

It was the old M1911A1, not a commander, just the regular 5" barrel. If I think of it at all nowadays, I just think something like "...stupid iron piece-of-sh!t...." ****

I agree I have a CZ 75 SPO1 for the range, have had it for around 5 years and wouldn't change it. If you are at a range here its the one you will see the most. It's getting a bit expensive £ 550 when I bought mine now £ 850 new. If you want to do a bit of shopping for handguns prices and models check out the link.

That very pistol was likely in service when you possibly left right up until they were phased out in 85. I can't understand anyone actually having a problem/wanting any from the CMP. They likely so worn out and such that its not worth the effort to try and breath life into them, just buy a nice new one from (in the US) the Bass pro or whatever shop (or even do something radical use your local mom and pop gun store). Fun fact, there were a run of 1911's in 455 webley (it was variant of the cartridge made for feeding in a semi auto) for the RAF. Those are really old pieces of Iron shoite!!!

If you ever decide to put a semi on your restricted license I hear the smith and wesson M&P is worth a go (In Parts of Australia the police there replaced their smith revolvers with them, some of those Aussie revolvers are popping for sale I think now also).

Also ruger is making Match GP 100 with Canadian legal 4.20 barrels http://www.ruger.com/products/gp100Matc ... odels.html

I have relatives in the Isle of man and might end up there, I've seen gundeal and might use that. Do you what NI dealers are like shipping to manx dealers? I know its easier than getting a section uk mainland dealer to do it.

I just had a brief check on that site, 395 quid for a gen 3 glock, that is my kinda price.

If you live in the Isle of man, their shouldn't be a problem buying a handgun in Northern Ireland through a Manx dealer. But its something you would need to check to be sure.

Its not going to be this year, the next or even the year after (I'd rather not discuss why its a possibility), plus my old man would want one or two being sent and since a good deal of Colt Pythons.... and they're what he'd aspire to own, he does have a limit for what he'd pay for one and if they were too much he'd just go and buy a Ruger or a smith and wesson or if really feeling flush a manhurin.

But thanks anyway. an RFD to RFD transfer is what we'd do, I think the only thing we'd come in person for is something like a Python and that would just to be get someone to verify its in the condition we want.

I reckon being on a section one type ticket in NI makes it easier, but as you said best to check and things can change.

Oh I'm sure it was.... (waste not, want not...... 8-) ) . Actually mine would have been a great find for somebody. I only ever fired it once a year to keep qualified for my rank & pay grade...... :D :D

And, just by-the-way, I can't STAND Bass Pro. I'm a Cabela's gal........ :good:

Well my mum and dad were on holiday in Memphis and Nashville and in the Memphis shop my dad bought a Redfield spotting scope, saved himself money. He inquired about the Leupold one, but the guy told him that as they are the same company they have the same glass so he convinced my dad to save himself money and he couldn't fault the service. They guy then inquired a bit more as it became obvious before they even spoke that they weren't from the area. He asked my dad about Cornwall as he has relatives there and my dad being a lorry driver told he knew the are he was inquiring about well and he might as well go and see his relatives there. Also my dad's heart sank a bit when he saw an M&P 10 AR10 and he thought damn. He actually cares more for the AR10 than AR15's but that might be due to calibre and possibly no experience firing one (he's fired my VZ58 mars like that).

I guess Maybe Cabelas is one of those places you go and you don't go back from. We all have our own experience, I remember a youtuber who's since took the video down (nothing to do with complaints from the company, he just took down some of his gun videos, and though he's put some new one's up he's not put some old ones back) and Gander mountains in New york where he was seemed appalling. They didn't know the law, said that because a saiga could take a drum mag it was illegal (not really it would only be illegal if used with a mag that holds more than 10 in NY, being able to hold more than 10 is neither here nor there) and he got a (possibly sarcastic) response from the guy at the counter telling him to sell on the black market. Truly a crap place at that.
