Re: Sections of What???
Seems a popular way to get a Section 5 clearance allowing you to possess just about any kind of Small Arms is to show you are involved in the Film industry.
But because of all the checks and paperwork you have to adhere to many people say it is not worth the bother. Stories abound of people doing serious jail time for having a few extra guns, even ammunition not properly documented.
In the UK you will get a mandatory five years in Jail for simply possessing a 22 Pistol (Even if you have a Firearm Certificate), meanwhile people are stealing Motor Bikes, donning masks and smashing up Jewellery shops, stealing thousands of pounds worth of Jewellery and in one case getting a similar sentence.
Story...
Oh! and BTW The Police have stated that they will not chase these people if they are on Motor Bikes as they may fall off and hurt themselves.
And another thing, this five year rule was instigated by a Man who has been blind since birth and hasn't ever seen a Gun.
And another other thing, the first person to fall foul of his stupid law was his chauffeur's son who was convicted of illegal possession.

They used to say that for a Blind man he sure as hell created a good deal of paperwork for everyone.25Pdr wrote:Seems a popular way to get a Section 5 clearance allowing you to possess just about any kind of Small Arms is to show you are involved in the Film industry.

Re: Sections of What???
....back on topic.......
:) ........ I am finding that Act quite interesting, seriously. It seems, on the one hand, to be INCREDIBLY overly complicated as well as draconian, but at the same time, on the other hand, it does seem (as far as I have read.....) to provide a relatively sane scheme of allowing folks to shoot and hunt within the Law.
I say 'relatively sane' ONLY in the context of my prior misunderstanding of the level of prohibition etc which prevails in the UK. i.e. - some of it is absolute buffalo turds, but some of it actually makes a bit of sense.
I shall continue my perusal. :)

Sorry Browning Girl...But imagine you have a fairly large Pistol collection and one day you receive a letter instructing you to bring them to the Police Station and have them taken off you for ever.
I swore never to vote for any of the main stream Politicians ever again, and set out to buy as many long guns as I could.

The problem wet have is that the law and the home-office interpretation of the law are quite different. The HO and individual forces seem to add many more complications into what could be a simple system.

Re: Sections of What???
The fact is that The Firearms Act of 1968 AND all the amendments that come after it are irelevant if you live outside the UK.
All you need to know is Section 2 = Shotgun, or smoothbored musket type fireams either over and under or side by side or semi auto / pump with a MAX of 3 rounds.
Sec 1 = .22 bolt / lever / martini / pump action / semi auto and Full bore bolt / martini / lever action. NO pump NO semi auto.
Muzle loading revolvers and Long barrelled revolvers or semi auto .22 pistols
Sec 5 = anything else deemed naughty or very naughty.

NOT TRUE!!! as anyone who live in NI will tell you, things like centrefire semi auto's are not banned in the UK, they are banned in Great Britain.25Pdr wrote: In the UK you will get a mandatory five years in Jail for simply possessing a 22 Pistol (Even if you have a Firearm Certificate)

When guns are outlawed, only Outlaws will have guns

NO HARM AT ALL for someone to know the UK laws if they are not a UK resident...or is there??
&
I need to rack your brain sometime about the old Gifford range...as I keep getting mixed reports on WHERE it was!
Some have said Park Crescent - but that may have been the .22 indoor rifle range

Don't forget section 7.1 and 7.3

The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.
