Re: Round nosed bullets in lever?
I had a Savage lever action .308 - nice gun and accurate too. It did need you to be 'assertive' when levering a new round into the chamber.
Purveyor of fine cast boolits.
All round good guy and VERY grumpy old man.

Doesn't surprise me 308 isn't a class round, pretty uncouth really.
I currently have them in 22 Savage Hi Power, 25-35, 303 Savage and 300 Savage, they all cycle and chamber as smooth as silk.

One question Dromia, how come Savage or no one else has thought to reissue the 1899? I know it had a 303 savage round (not the same as 303 british). Me thinks a 303 british version would be something great.dromia wrote:Or even better get a Savage 1899, the best underlever ever made.![]()
With its rotary magazine, including round counter, it will handle any bullet shape.

Can't hunt nothin' with a .357. Unless it's hand-to-hand range.......Demonic69 wrote:Neither of those take .357 :-( the blr looks nice, not sure about the rack and pinion action though!

Most shooter's taste is located just past their sphincters.Sixshot6 wrote:One question Dromia, how come Savage or no one else has thought to reissue the 1899? No mate, I'd certainly like to though.dromia wrote:Have you ever used one?Demonic69 wrote: The savage, in my opinion, is ugly! The action seems fantastic though.
If I had easy access to a more capable range I'd be tempted with a different calibre, but .38spl is about the best I can manage, maybe one day :-)

It looks like a clever action, nice in takedown too.Browning_grrl wrote:Can't hunt nothin' with a .357. Never had a stoppage or FTF in rain, sleet, snow or at minus 20'C. Most reliable gun I've ever owned, bar none.

It's a working gun, not a range toy or a safe-queen. razz
The black label version would certainly get room in my cabinet!
Which version do you have?
Re: Round nosed bullets in lever?
Nice to shoot, Friend has one in 22 Savage. Although the Marlin 1894C is my favourite and used often, >25K rounds with only two broken firing pins. Must get a one piece type pin sometime.dromia wrote:Or even better get a Savage 1899, the best underlever ever made.![]()
