Stage directions:

CUE: Out of a shimmering mirage stagger Badger , a frog, a howlin' wookie and 3 bald monkeys. Theme tune to Lawrence of Arabia rises to a crescendo

Well oomans, Day 1 is done. We all survived but lots of paper died. It was us or them, and it was a close run thing. L'instruction, c'est fantastique, et en francais. There was a reason for bringing Froggers avec nous...

The course is very well structured and the tuition extremely good. It's also quite stressfull, which is no bad thing because so is real conflict. We're being taught to assess and respond to threats quickly, effectively and SAFELY with a Glock 17. So far we haven't screwed up, and we even managed to score 50 ex 50 at our end of day shooting evaluation with no marks lost for safety infringements either.

Cue smug grin...

Didn't manage to get too many photos really. The course is so intensive you don't really get time.
lots of water breaks though. I'll try and get some photos of the equipment tomorrow if time permits.
got the basics of pistol handling and safety down today. Malfunction clearing and fire procedures. Tomorrow is more advanced stuff. Moving whilst shooting and some rifle basics for those who haven't done it. Then on to pistol and rifle transitions and stuff Sunday... did I mention how hot it is...?

Looks good, it's a shame I couldn't make it in the end. More pics if you can please, even if it's just drunken shenanigans...

Day 2

We must down to the range again,
'Neath a cloudless clear blue sky,
Where the sun beats down like a laser
On the grass so scorched and dry.
And all we ask is a Kalashnikov,
With a Glock strapped at our side,
And a silent pause each half hour,
To water our sun burnt hide.

Lunchtime

It's 35 degrees in the shade, oomans, but there is no shade. The morning was spent training to fire around, over and under cover, assessed by a test at the end.

30 rounds available, ten targets to engage, ten different positions to be demonstrated. All against the clock as we ran around the course of fire. The winner achieved this in 47 seconds, we managed it in 54 and that included having to clear a double feed as we ran between targets. We are happy with that.

Our hosts are very hospitable! They even brought in some tyres for the bald monkeys to swing on...

Back to the range now to learn the Dragunov...
