Fullbore-List has a new home

#1 Post by ashmcc »

Hello all,
I expect a number of people on this forum may be (or may at one point have been) subscribers to the "fullbore-list" email list, which has been running for the last 20 years, frequented by many great figures in the sport, and has seen much interesting and technical discussion of the various fullbore target rifle disciplines and technologies.

Unfortunately, the existing host (winshop.com.au) will be shutting down their mail list platform on the 1st of August. There was some debate over whether the time has come to let the list die off, as discussion has been quiet recently and a mailing list seems a bit of a technological dinosaur these days. There seems to be a lot of fondness for the old beast, however. I have therefore created a new home for it at "fullbore@targetrifle.org" where it can continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

I know many subscribers tend to dip in and out periodically over the years, and therefore might not notice the demise of the old list until it's gone. If you want to continue to receive messages, you'll have to subscribe to the new address.

There are two methods to subscribe:
1) send an email to fullbore-request@targetrifle.org, with the word "subscribe" as the subject
2) use the web interface at http://targetrifle.org/mailman/listinfo ... trifle.org

Cheers,

Adam

Can you explain exactly what it is please? Any examples to download? Sorry but I've never heard of it.

It's an email distribution list - those subscribed to the list will receive a copy of any message sent to it. They were quite common back before things like forums or social networks were around.
Typically conversations start when someone asks for advice, or makes some sort of announcement or observation. The focus is generally quite technical, but it's fairly common to see discussion of competition results or anecdotes or just jokes.
As an example, a recent discussion concerned the pros and cons of laser micro welding to repair a damaged bolt face...

OK thanks, so it's just an e-mail distribution list people use to chat on... OK. Wasn't sure if people wrote articles and that became the basis for a discussion, but thanks for clarifying things.

Ash, does the new list server have a maximum message size as the old one did?

Yes, although it's configurable so I could increase it!

Ovenpaa,

This was in itself not a bad thing, as it prevented endless message and necessary to delete former parts of the conversation.

Also using plain text.
