Tungsten heads

#1 Post by Robin128 »

OK, they (Raufoss) are used in armour piercing and certain sniper applications.

But without the HE and incendiary components...has anyone any knowledge of the use of this material in paper cutter heads?

:)

Other than you cannot use them on military ranges (increased ricochet danger), I believe.
Purveyor of fine cast boolits.

Yup, monolithics are not allowed on MoD ranges.

I looked at making tungsten bullets, and concluded they would cost close to $4 apiece, so I abandoned the project.

Conventional AP bullets are not monolithic, they are of jacketed construction. - But isn't AP ammo. prohibited under Section 5 (1A) ?

Not sure it is prohibited but it is certainly not allowed at MoD ranges along with tracer for civilian use.

ovenpaa, we get away with tracer up here, except in the two or three days we have now decided to call summer.

Two or three times I have seen 7,62x51 tracer at bargain prices, in DK last year it was something silly like a tenner/100 rounds and the BiL had a fair amount of 1:4 lying around at work as well. I know some of the members of the last club I shot with used it on MoD ranges dependant on who was/was not there but that is the sort of thing that come back to haunt you and loose you a good shooting venue.

I do have a few 12g tracer still, doubt I will ever use them but might be handy for Zombies one day :)

Every now and again we are permitted to use tracer on one of the MoD ranges, however, the serial is specified and usually after a period of wet weather. A couple of summers ago, the military set fire to the range, so to speak. It had been dry, very dry for a few weeks and the range is by the coast and is basically, shingle and gorse. The gorse smoldered for weeks under the shingle......

No damage caused, so to speak, but held up training for the mob....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!
