South Yorkshire says that too. Strange that they don't seem to want to follow the guidelines for some reason?bradaz11 wrote:just noticed when filling it out, Herts/Beds police have put on the top of the variation form that my certificate MUST be enclosed with the variation application??

now just trying to decide what to ask for.... sure they used to have more than 4 slots on a form.....
When guns are outlawed, only Outlaws will have guns
Re: Police Scotland & RFDs
I take a copy of mine and send it in, keeping the copy on my phone in case I need to present it for any reason.
I can imagine it being very infuriating if your variation or renewal was taking a long time, leaving you without the means to purchase ammunition while you wait!

Re: Police Scotland & RFDs
Got my variation back.
It'll be heading back to them next week....as the slot for the last purchase a coupe of months back is still showing as open , the 5.56 rifle is not on the possessed table.
The new 7.62 shotgun slot is on too....but all guns are conditioned for target shooting only; the 7.62 has no ammo entitlement, at my request, as it's for reenactment only
Will collect the Mosin later today before sending the FAC back in.

Re: Police Scotland & RFDs
Well my FEO did his job and my FAC and related paperwork were passed to Firearms Licensing in Aberdeen well within the timescale for renewal. My FAC was passed last week, but apparently there was no-one available to sign it off until Tuesday (2nd June), presumably it was then posted out as I was promised it would be.DW58 wrote:Well, I'm pleased to report that there's at least one FEO in Police Scotland who is doing his job well and has always treated me with courtesy, respect and has handled all equiries efficiently, fairly and to my satisfaction.
I only have one complaint: Why why why must they send FACs etc. by second class mail - my last variation was passed quickly and then took two weeks to come from from the Aberdeen FLO to me in Elgin?
Perhaps adinistrative efficiency will improve once the Aberdeen FLO is absorbed by Inverness which will be implemented soon.
However, my old FAC expires today, I'm not surpised that my new FAC has not arrived in today's mail.
Why - why - why must they use second class mail? Luckily my son's FAC totally duplicates mine, but in my opinion this just isn't good enough.
Two problems:
- Too high a workload in Firearms Licensing
- Use of an inadequate/slow mail service - currently second class/previously first flass recorded.

Re: Police Scotland & RFDs
I have never been asked for my old fac on renewal.
I now have either 4 or 5 going back to pistol days.
I cant see why they would want the old one tbh.

Re: Police Scotland & RFDs
I was recently speaking with one of the firearms enquiries cops & he was telling me that PS have already allocated new numbers to all FAC holders and you will be getting your new number on renewal/variation. He said it is already causing confusion as their database does not always correspond. Joe Blogs may have a FAC number something like NF12345 now down against his name in the main database but he might actually be holding a FAC wih a number like 1234 Northern. Apparently there's only room on their database for the one FAC number and, as yet, there is no easy cross-reference.
As for Airgun Licensing; they're all just shaking their heids!

Re: Police Scotland & RFDs
I got a new FAC number when I submitted for a "one-for-one" back in December, it's a single letter followed by three digits, e.g. A123.
Speaking of FACs, mine expired yesterday. The replacement was passed on Weds/Thursday of last week and was to have been signed off on 2/6/2015 - surprise surprise, No FAC yet!
Are PS aware of the inefficiency of 2nd class mail?

Re: Police Scotland & RFDs
I have my FAC/SGCs at last, and what's more I can't find any clerical errors.
What's next?
