Shopping List - Cleaning Kit

#1 Post by pb86 »

Hi All,

As I now have my new .308 rifle on order I need to look at buying all the relevant auxiliary parts such as a cleaning kit. I have only owned RF rifles to date so all my stuff is currently RF orientated and tbh I very rarely clean my RF rifles as I like to keep them leaded in.

I understand that the fullbore world is slightly different given the copper fouling and additional carbon build up, so what products do people recommend that would be effective for a starters cleaning kit? Links to suppliers would be also be great.

Over to your collective knowledge....

C2R or Hoppes. Clean from breach and use a rod guide. Try Shooting Shed for bits?

I'm in exactly the same boat, having just bought my first .308. I've decided to go with a Proshot rod and brush/jag, and C2R to clean.

What you really need is a nice OTIS kit in a tactical pouch :run:

You might want to consider adding `Ballistol`oil to your list.

It is good for lubricating actions, wiping through bores after cleaning for storage and for rust prevention on blued surfaces plus, it restores leather and is good for wooden stocks.
It will help to lift copper from bores, it is also non toxic and an anti-septic.

It has dozens of other non shooting applications as well

Ballistol was used by German forces in 2 world wars for firearms maintenance.

I just bought an Otis kit, lovely little kit especially for carrying around with you in case you need to clear the barrel at all.
