Edinburgh to Dorset, via M6 corridor

#1 Post by saddler »

Off to a job interview next week.
Drive to Bournemouth on the 27th (Wednesday) & will be in the Waterlooville area too before the end of the day.
On the return trip on Thursday, I'll be leaving Poole about midday-1pm, then nipping over to Gloucestershire to collect another Auto5 shakeshout , before heading 'oop North again (MAY do this return leg on the A1/M1 - not decided on that yet - just keen NOT to be on the M6 at rush hour anywhere near the Brum/Knutsford bottleneck)

Anyone need anything dropping off on the route I'll be driving, or likewise picking up? May save someone a bit of courier fees.

May also be able to smuggle haggi' over the border, or take propper pukka northern nosh (stottie cakes, peas puddin, whippet spread) to exiles darn sarf

MAY even drop some Finnish reference books off for an overnight loan with Blighty (IF he picks up his phone to arrange a meeting point)

As long as it's legal I'll try to help out (S.2 kit ok, some S.1 ammo & such also ok as long as my ticket covers it)

If it was the week after you could have called in for a cuppa on the way back. green55

...or the day after & I could have ferried some of your boxes of kit in the approximate direction of N. Lincs.

IF the job comes off I will be up & down the country on a regular basis, as it's a long way to drive home for lunch! (sort of)

Also waiting to hear back about a job I had an interview for, in Devon; plus I'm due an interview (yet to be arranged) for a job in North Wales.

Thanks anyway and fingers crossed the interviews go well for you. You can always call in on your commute if you are successful.

Once/if one of the offers comes through I'll let you know, so we can start the escape network: about time there was an underground railroad for folk wanting to get out of the "ForthReich" as it's going to go downhill fast with MaryDoll running the freak show.

The Dorset job would be very handy for Normandy too. Nice place...but NOT around annual J-Jour events, unless you are into waking LSD-CircusCircus-HeviMetal mind warps...which I'm not.
N. Wales - handy for nice scenery, cheap housing, quite a few good ranges, etc. plus close to a few mates in the W. Midlands from days at Uni.

Worked out so far, the round trip is approx. 980 miles - that's not counting detours & side trips to whichever shop/wholesaler I may be passing.

Job interview went well....I think
Trip down, depart 8am: Caught in M6 traffic jam in the Brum area - as per the norm.
Nipped to a a gunshop in Gloucester area. Then the joys of the A338 at evening rush hour.
Arrive Boscombe 8pm.
Trip back: Interview at 11am for an hour - actually ended up being 3 hours - so leave Poole at 2pm.
Up to Northampton area to collect a Swede 42...stuck in LOTS of traffic on the A34 in the Oxford area - should have known better as lived there for a couple of years. Leave Northampton about 6.30, sat-nav then gets me lost for half an hour.
HAD to detour to see Phaedra about 11.30 as tireder than a tired thing. Leave his about 00.20 - arrive home about 03.00

LONG DRIVE

IF the job comes off though, it looks like there are flights from Edinburgh to Bournemouth - at a good rate less than the car fuel would be, plus a fraction of the travel time/stress involved.

Fingers crossed - they said they'll let me know in a couple of weeks

Can you give us a clue as to the position? Tester for Sunseeker?
