You'd at least think the contractors would say.

Although, if you get the same company every few years to redo the same tarmac, it's in their interest not to say a word.

In light traffic areas, the correct topping will last a good while, the first few weeks is when it will get hardest hit as the solvents in Tarmac are still evaporating, so won't be fully hard yet. Though they still should have used some form of edging, but again, that's a huge cost.

Next time you are out driving on minor country lanes have a look and see if there any curbs. I suspect all you will find is a grass verge.
