And thats why I've moved onto the Vectan powders after being told that it appears closer to Herco as its flakey. Any idea of equivalent powder loads for a nitro conversion then? I'm just grabbing this for my dad so he knows where to go when Herco is even more non-existent than it already is.

It is a flake powder but Vectan A0 is a lot faster burning than Herco and faster than Unique. I've not seen any published loads for use in nitro converted cylinders.

Might have to get the Anvil guy's opinion then. Thank you, possibly less than 4 grn's. Maybe 3.5-3-8 grns. Any say way to test what is enough?

I'd have a long chat with the pistols supplier before buying anything other than Herco, testing variable quantities of an undocumented powder is probably not one of lifes better decisions, well not if you like all your fingers attached that is :)

That's what I thought. We have a bit of blue dot and can occasionally get and Unique can be had. he recommended those as substitutes. Like I said. 5.7 grns for blue dot and 4.1grns for unique. Blue dot being a slow burner and unique being the faster one. He did add that Unique seems to not produce as tight a group as blue dot. I guess we'll just ask. Its not gonna be until June when he gets it.

He just doesn't want the faffing of a true black powder revolver. And the anvils are said to be easy to load and easy to clean compared to a black powder. So it was good sell.

Structurally however it's nothing like Herco. Herco is a large flake therefore not prone to falling through the cylinders primer pocket holes which is why it's recommended for nitro conversions using shotgun primers. GM3 is a very granular powder almost like very coarse sugar and the individual grains (looking at mine) would have no problem going through the primer hole.
Here's what I have for GM3, tucked away in a file titled "Gualandi Slug data". Sorry it's for shotgun loads, but perhaps it'll help someone out?

I'll show it to my dad later and I'll tell him he needs to ask Anvil about the use of Vectan, if he thinks it's ok.

I think you will find A0 is about the same as/or slower than Herco on a burn rate chart.

I have GM3 reloading data for pistol calibres...GM3 is similar burn rate to Green Dot..also very successful in downloaded rifle loads...currently used in 303, 30/30, 308 with success to 100yards using cast bullets.

357 Mag loads, pistol

158gn bullet 6.8gns 1150 fps
5.6gns 1020 fps
