Gun stock cleaning

#1 Post by beesleya09 »

Hi, I have an old Weihrauch HW77 air rifle (I know, what a sin to the proper firearms users! ) with a birch stock and was wondering if any of you could advise me on what products to use for general cleaning of the gun. I don't want to do a stock refinish, just cleaning and oiling with general use. Thanks for the help!

I use soapy water on my old Webley Vulcan.
Then dry it and use Mr Sheen to give it a nice shine.

Walnut oil, rub into the wood and left 24 hrs, before buffing/ polishing works well on my rifle stocks, acts as a waterproof as well as looking and smelling great!

Depends on what the current finish it. If it has been lacquered, there's not much you can do unless you remove the lacquer, which is the biggest part of a refinishing job in any case.

Otherwise, this stuff http://www.bushwear.co.uk/ccl-gunstock- ... -50ml.html
is the business.

I think the original stock finish would have been varnish, so no point in rubbing oil into it. Just wipe it down and a polish as suggested can't hurt.
