Having just picked up a very excellent condition secondhand TIGR yesterday complete with scope and three mags I recieved an email this afternoon from Oleg (Rusmilitary) to say he had secured 10 Saiga TIGR's from a German supplier and if l wanted one he would bring one in for me (albeit wants a copy of FAC showing it on ticket and money upfront).

Unfortunately for Oleg had to tell him l had already got one, a couple of days earlier he would have had my money.

Still enough money saved for half a 9mm VZ58 MARS when Scott has finished one (soon l hope).

Lastly does anyone know where I can get a1960's Russian battery for a PSO-1 scope (unlikely?)?

An original Russian battery for a PSO-1 is as rare as the proverbial hens teeth, far easier to use two AG13 button cell batteries.For mine I made a small battery holder from, of all things, a plastic fan retaining cap out of a Jaguar LandRover aircon unit (amazing what you can find at work!) and a small piece of brass rod and it works perfectly.
out of curiousity where did you find a PSO-1?, mine is a late 60s Techpribor made one with a still fully functioning IR detector.

The PSO-1 was on the Saiga that I have just bought off of Leeroy, unless I have got the model wrong but it matches the pictures that come up on Google.

With regard to the battery the webbernet says that a CR 1/3N 3 volt will fit so have bought 3 for a fiver off of Amazon.

Looking through it yesterday evening the glass looked nice and clear with plenty of light coming through, although I struggled with the rubber eyepiece and prefer it without.

I am trying to persuade my beloved to let me have another Severnside range day this weekend (just had one last Sunday).

I am a Dragunov newbie so will appreciate any advice.

Ah, that will be a commercial POSP scope from Belarus.A PSO-1 is the original scope that was issued with military Dragunovs and are quite collectable and were produced by Techpribor in Leningrad/St Petersburg, NPZ Optics in Novosibirsk and Izhmash in Izhevsk, the latter being quite rare and sought after.The PSO-1 is a 4x24 with milspec optics, a 1000m rangefinder based on a 1.7m high target (later ones were 1.8m) and earlier versions had a IR detecting feature that allowed infrared night vision etc to be detected at night by turning a small knob on the left side that drops a IR sensitive screen down, it has a small "window" on the top that allows the screen to charge during daylight hours.

Top one is a my late 60s PSO-1, the bottom one is a 4-12x42 1pn21 pancratic scope



And a Tigr/Dragunov isn't a Saiga, a Saiga is the AK-based range of rifles produced by Izhmash and there are no parts shared between the two.

So to clarify I have an Izhmash Tigr fitted with a commercial POSP scope?

That all pans out as the scope says made in Belarus.

Thanks for the info and clarification as it will make me sound I know what I am on about when I get asked about the rifle on range.

I am debating to change out the plastic for wood and hoping I might get some Estonian cousins to source it, as well as a bipod, unless there other options?

Yes its a Izhmash Tigr-05 (05 is the special order version with the 620mm barrel, SVD polymer furniture and full size flash hider) and what I think is a POSP 8x42vd scope with the 0.5m/1.5m rangefinder.

Wood furniture is nice on them, I sourced mine from a contact in Moscow and also sourced the early style ribbed SVD receiver cover.

A pic of mine with her SVD-S stablemate, the SVD-S is the shorter barrelled folding stock version developed in the early 90s for VDV paratroopers etc and is slowly replacing the SVD in a lot of Russian units.

Definitely like it with the wood and there would seem to be a few third party wood turners in Russia with differing designs.

Still will use it as is for a while to get used to it. I liked the way you can turn the cheek rest out of the way to use the irons.
