Ballistic Apps and drop tables

I have a wind meter, (Skywatch Xplorer 3) and tend to use it more when I am flying my kites, and usually only to confirm it is too windy and I am going to end up face down getting dragged along the ground at 25km/hr (Which I normally do)

I never use a balistic app for windage and I must admit wind reading is a problem for me, I have .308 shot so regularly at one range that I instinctively wind the windage drum based on the bottom flag. Fine for my range but it is not giving real world readings as the majority of the range is sheltered from the prevailing winds so what looks like 15-18MPH wind gives the same deviation as a 6-8MPH wind on an open range.

My recent move to a faster 7mm after shooting .308 for so long with a very different 'scope in MOA instead of M'rads is also a bit of a problem. Hopefully I will get to grips with it when I start using it properly this year.

especially the last 100 yrds off the range is open , so you will get a kick on the windage from that stretch being open to the wind

I have always been told to use the flags nearest first for wind reading but at Barton the only flag is at the far end so I instinctively use the furthest flag at any of the ranges I shoot at which will play with my wind reading 'skills' slightly. Even worse the Viking will sometimes tell me when to stop and when to shoot again in variable wind conditions and make good calls. I have no idea how she does it either....

I use Ballistic on the boing and Shooter on my Android. Ballistic is the better of the two IMHO but they are both very accurate. Haven't failed to get me on target yet, and if the load development is right (i.e. it's shooting straight, with low variation and I know my MV) then it's pretty regularly a first-round V-bull. Can't really complain!
