Can I send a firearm via parcel force?

#1 Post by douglas670 »

Just a quick query.
every gun i have purchased or sold has been bone by RFD to RFD,

however in the past and today when i have enquired about sending a gun down to a RFD i have been told to save money send it via parcelforce 24 or 48hr delivery.

i know my local RFD charges something like £35 , 20 quid for postage and 15quid for putting it through the books as a buyer!!

i thought all firearms HAD to go from dealer to dealer, infact even the local firearms dept had said this as well
who is correct??
any reply appreciated

I have always been told RFD to RFD and as far as I know the only courier that will transport firearms is TNT.

Please correct me if I am wrong anybody?

Im also pretty sure that TNT are the only courier company authorised to transport firearms.

Besides,i wouldnt trust Parcel farce with an onion let alone a gun. They break everything.

Has to be in person or RFD to RFD. FA s32

As far as I am aware they have to be RFD to RFD in the UK however there is a possible exception.... Importing from overseas. I had discussed bringing a rifle in from DK and my FEO told me I could do it and the rifle would then be signed onto my FAC by HMRC customs office, however he said they often failed to do this and I would then have to bring the rifle to the FEO and his office would sign it on.

I have not tested this yet.

TNT are one of the few couriers who will carry firearms, Fastway is another and yes Parcelforce will carry firearms if you are an account holder. Technically any courier can carry them as they don't actually have a licence but company policy normally puts a stop to it as they don't want the liability.

Guys,

You can always try RFDNET... as a fully authorised RFD, a member of their team will collect & deliver your firearms direct to your customer's home, transferring the details onto their FAC or shotgun permit. All firearms (and air guns) are satellite tracked & insured up to £20,000.

See the following link:

http://www.rfdnet.net

It's a whole lot simpler thanks to the UK's first and only licensed & financially secure door to door delivery service!

Rob is correct. If you can not do the transfer face to face with the individual buying your gun, it must go through an RFD so he has the face to face transaction with the recieptiant. As a private individual, you can not send it to an RFD as the dealer cannot verify face to face, that you lawfully possess the said gun. RFD's are regulated with the acts and guidance that allows them to do so between each other.

All of this stems from a sneaky part of the '97 ammendment that killed "mail order". I remember buying a .357 revolver from a dealer at the other end of the country back in the heady days. I sent him my FAC and cheque, which he cashed and filled in. A couple of days later he called to make sure my certificate had been returned and a couple of days later the ordinary post man knocked on the door with a parcel!!! Pure simplicity! But, there was a case that hit national news where a scroat had got hold of an FAC in a burglary, doctored the FAC and bought a couple of handguns via mail order......

Yep, ovenpaa, you can personally import a gun from outside the UK on the strength of your FAC. I did it after buying a rifle in Germany. Turn up at customs, go through the red channel and declare it. The insist and show customs how to fill in your FAC! Their faces are a picture! Firstly, that someone actually stopped in the red channel and then show them a gun! Priceless. Everyone should do it just for fun!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!
