CASE NECK SIZING PROBLEM
Hi
I an neck sizing some Lapua 308 brass for the first time.
The problem i am having well don't know if it is a problem after neck sizing the brass the neck has has lots of lines running down the neck and it looks like it has shaving some brass of is this normal.
I have striped the die down and found no problem with the die or the bushing i am using.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Regards
Andy

Re: CASE NECK SIZING PROBLEM
You will get slight scratching...I am assuming your die has no grit lodged in it and all the cases have been cleaned before re-sizing?
BTW don't try the cartridges in a gun other than last fired the cases.
Apols if I am preaching to the converted. :)

Re: CASE NECK SIZING PROBLEM
Are you using the Redding or Forster dies with separate bushings if so try turning the bushing upside down, also make sure the bush is allowed to float slightly, if it is a Type S die make sure it has been thoroughly cleaned inside, use a lube on the neck, I use Imperial sizing wax, in my opinion there is no substitute for it.
Also make sure the case neck itself is clean.

Hi
I am using a Foster's die and a Foster's 335 bushing.
yes i have tried the bush the other way round and thats worse so i know i have it the right way round.
The lines on the case are very evenly spaced out about ever .05mm around the full case neck.

Re: CASE NECK SIZING PROBLEM
Imperial dry neck lube is another brilliant solution for neck sizing. Apart from that, make sure both case and die are clean as has been said. If you still have problems attach a photo of the marks.

Re: CASE NECK SIZING PROBLEM
Ah! I used to get exactly the same marks on the case neck with my 7mm and Forster bushings so I have just smoothed the inside of the start of the bush out slightly to give it slightly more lead as the neck goes in to the bush, I did mine in a lathe but you may be able to improvise with something else, the important thing is to get it very smooth. how far down do you neck size?ANDY T wrote:Hi

I normally do about 90% of the neck case
Re: CASE NECK SIZING PROBLEM
You mean the pin that ejects the primer? I have some spares if you need one. I would stop with Forster myself.ANDY T wrote:Hi
