Used Cases - What are they worth
Hi
I purchased 500 rounds of HPS Target Master .308, 155 grain NEW BRASS a while back. The price I paid included a 5p per case deposit. However, given the increase in metal prices would I be better off selling the 500 cases I have on the open market rather than trading them back to HPS?

Hey, 5p is 5p
I'll give you 6p each if you cover P&P
Depending on the make of the brass, used .308 cases sell from £12 - £35 per hundred.
Maybe the HPS "5p deposit" is there for the hard of thinking? (or they've not done their sums on brass prices since the 1950's?)
Can I turn up & borrow several hundred new brass cases from them, if I leave a "5p deposit" on said cases?

Re: Used Cases - What are they worth
It all depends upon the make of brass - the HPS Target Master ammo I bought last year while temporarily unable to reload, was loaded in PPU cases which IMO are of relatively little value, while Lapua/RWS brass has quite a high value, it's all relative.
Thus 500x once fired PPU .308 cases have a value of around £20-25 whilst the same number of Lapua/RWS cases ought to fetch £150-225 or even more, e.g. I believe the NRA sell RWS once fired cases at 30p/each, thus 500 RWS cases cost £150 @ Bisley, once fired Lapua cases are not cheap.

I believe that the HPS headstamped brass is MEN and it reloads very well.

Perhaps - but when it's stamped PPU then it's probably PPU which isn't so great.20series wrote:I believe that the HPS headstamped brass is MEN and it reloads very well.

RWS .308 Win once fired cases from the NRA retail at 20p each over the counter at Bisley.
Re: Used Cases - What are they worth
I stand corrected - I thought it was 30p.IainWR wrote:RWS .308 Win once fired cases from the NRA retail at 20p each over the counter at Bisley.
Re: Used Cases - What are they worth
By far the best thing you could do with them would be to fill 'em up with powder and shoot 'em again, then you can be shooting the same or better ammo for 40p a bang instead of 90p.Rooster wrote:would I be better off selling the 500 cases I have on the open market rather than trading them back to HPS?
