Is the Shed 2 piece comparator calibre specific? I only load for two rifles, 308 and a 303 No 4, and while the 308 can probably benefit from the added accuracy a comparator would give I'm thinking (but very happy to be told otherwise) that a 60-year old battle rifle may not.
Other kit is a Mitutoyo dial caliper and Lee dies. The reloaded 308 ammo is getting 1/2moa at 100 yards out of a Remington 700 and the No 4 is currently getting 4 inch groups off a bench

Man up and shoot the No4 properly man (with a sling on your belt buckle)!!! Tart

They are chambering specific. The base takes the case head, the other end touches the Ogive. When set up properly you cannot feel the 2 halves engage at zero. This is much easier with a Mit caliper as they were designed for a Mit where the jaws dont flex.

They require a touch and forcing them wont give much change in readings (as is possible with other comparators).

You could use the ogive end and just sit the 303 case head on the caliper but it would be a bit hit and miss. You would be surprised how well a 60 year old battle rifle can shoot with decent ammo, but you have the mag as a limiter.

I have one for 308/556 but not for 303....I simply copied a Mk7 round and set my dies up.....although I am going to try moving the OAL/Load about a bit when I go over to RS52 as I will be re-developing the load from scratch.

Although I am happy with N140 I think the RS may be kinder in terms of spike. I have always (probably unfairly and wrongly) treated 303 loads a bit lazilly thinking that the rifle will not necessarilly benefit....it will.

Just resting elbows on the bench to test the rounds, normally I am lying in the dirt.
N140 is my powder of choice and a smidge or so under max load gives spot on elevation to the Singer sight from 100 out to 600 yards and beyond. I'll play around with the OAL but 3.07 seems to work well, although I am amazed at the variation of factory ammo.
Sounds like a Shed comparator will make a nice addition to my collection of shiny tools.
Battle rifles never cease to surprise me, and even my 14 yr old now prefers the 303 to the scoped and bipoded tackdriver he learned on.

I have a scoped & tripoded T4, I get excellent results with SMK 155's with 44 grains of Ramshot TAC @ 600 yds.

Thanks for the advice. I got a good deal on Lapua brass and Scenar 155 heads so have a nice shiny pile of these these sitting on the reloading bench. Its good to hear that TAC powders work okay and the N140 is the one I would like to try if I can source it okay, still I have to see what is available locally. Seems not much to choose between Federal and CCI primers as both seem good. My local shop sells Fiocci though I haven't seen much about these online. Guess I can use my 147Gr Remington heads as a paper weight and my 149Gr Remington heads as a door stop, though I expect they would be fine on the 100 yard range in the PPU fire formed cases that I have collected.

The Fiocchi primers are top notch. I snagged 9k at a very good price a few years back.
I have used them in several cartridges with zero problems.
I think HPS might be using them in some of their ammo.
