Re: Service Rifle shoot, open invite
It seems everyone wants an actual competition. Hey ho, give the people what they want...!
Stand by for revised course of fire.

Gaz, you might want to consider the classes then mate, because if you are making it a formal comp people will bitch like hell when the inevetable happens.....they get beat by someone who they thing has a technical advantage.Gaz wrote:It seems everyone wants an actual competition. So what are the limits? 5 round mags max, no aids, as issued......sound familiar?
I thought the point of this was a show and tell/social yack shoot mate. I have binned other shoots in April to acommodate this one as something different.....all of the others are comps!!!
Arrrggghhhhhhh

Re: Service Rifle shoot, open invite
I don't particularly want a competition, just an interesting course of fire. some slow fire, some rapid and some snaps would suit me fine. You don't need separate classes, just one of service rifle A, as issued without any additions or alterations.
Just my thoughts....

Re: Service Rifle shoot, open invite
I agree with the interesting COF Steve, thats why I binned F and went to CSR/High power mate, but the latter part just duplicates the historic CSR parameter almost.Steve E wrote:I don't particularly want a competition, just an interesting course of fire. some slow fire, some rapid and some snaps would suit me fine. I thought the whole emphasis on this was "all comers educational", but given my ignorance of the classic/SR rules mate it may still be right.
I was sort of hoping to see Scoped Nagants, No5s, possibly a martini henry, L1A1.....The ones that dont usually compete. I might have even bought my AR along if there was spare target time.
Just a thought, it wont stop me shooting as I have said I will come along.
Re: Service Rifle shoot, open invite
OK, revised course of fire. Everything will be shot at 200yds using Fig 12 targets unless otherwise indicated. Scoring will be 5 (240mm circle), 4 (300mm circle), 3 (hit), miss.
Practice 1 - Prone deliberate
2 non-convertible sighters, 8 to count.
No upper time limit (unless you're taking the mick!), each shot will be separately signalled.
10 rounds total.
Practice 2 - Prone snaps
Ten exposures of 3 seconds at varying intervals. These will be at different spots along a 6' frontage unless time and range space dictates otherwise.
One round per exposure.
Firers will start with rifles loaded and made ready with 5 rounds.
10 rounds total.
Practice 3 - Standing and kneeling/squatting double snaps
Five double exposures of 3 seconds, two rounds per double exposure.
Firers start in the standing position with rifles loaded.
The first round is fired standing, the second in the kneeling or squatting position. Firers will return to the standing alert position between exposures.
Each double exposure will be "up 3 seconds, down 4 seconds, up 2 seconds".
Rifles may be loaded with 10 rounds.
Practice 4 - Sitting rapid
One exposure of 45 seconds.
Ten rounds.
Firers will start with rifles loaded with 5 rounds.
BYO rifles and ammo. Please be prepared to help mark as well. PM/email me to let me know if you're coming!

Re: Service Rifle shoot, open invite
I should add - it's still not a formal competition, though to satisfy the Home Office requirements for an open invite shoot I will be recording scores.

Re: Service Rifle shoot, open invite
In response to PM'd questions - there will be a suitably long (but still random length) pause in the middle of practice 3 to allow people with 5-round magazines to recharge them. Don't worry, you're not being put at a disadvantage.

LOL....you will need a random pause for soem to get up againGaz wrote:In response to PM'd questions - there will be a suitably long (but still random length) pause in the middle of practice 3 to allow people with 5-round magazines to recharge them. Re: Service Rifle shoot, open invite
A gentle bump - entries will close on Tue 14th April so I can book the range and advise costs in good time.
