Re: why do you like shooting?
I was rubbish at sport in school, I was the short fat kid who got picked last for everything and probably rightly.
I had an air rifle at 14 and found that I could general hit what I was aiming at or at least be close. When I was twenty I was very briefly in the RAuxAF regiment and did ok my one and only time on the range.
A few years later I joined the small-bore club at my old works and found that I enjoyed the competition, not just against others but more so against myself, pushing my ability and did ok shooting myself from C-A class at Bisley and even making an appearance in the "Bobs final" which is the best of the B-C-D classes in the Earl Roberts.
But now I mainly shoot because I enjoy it, just for fun and the laugh at the range.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Re: why do you like shooting?
A few years a go I realised that shooting was akin to zen meditation (as far as I could gather its nature from a little book I had read ;-)).
That's it. It's a na universal thing, breath, control your mind (sight coordination), your stance, let it flow without affecting your seriously thinking (what the heck!) mind... ...
I guess it is an individuall thing, some peaople might discover it without naming it, most of the will never discover it for the lack of guidance, somebecause they are nota able, those who find the way of shoting, will love it, somehow develop a wet shirt closeness to it, leading sometimess to mockery directed from outside. Sometimes it will be just a sort of "shruggery" - 'this guy is just weird".
I am happy to find out, that despite the outside world, the media world, perception of the shooting, the people I know, I work with (ladies significantly!) signall a positive message to me concerning the shooting sport. The sport and the whole 'thing" thing. Imagine me one day turning in with a Navy 1851 strapped in, and the sort of Texas headgear in my cubicle department, pukka! Or carying a Yaeger flintlock

You might do similar, projecting a REAL image of shooting sport,
Cheers

Why do I like shooting - have you seen the price of rally cars these days! Guns SEEMED a cheaper alternative - at the time.
Like sex, it can be done in many different positions, in all weathers, indoors or out and can be fast and furious or you can take your time for the perfect shot. And I am good at it.
Also you get to go to remote, interesting out of the way places (there's sex again), have fun and meet interesting like minded people.

Dogging was what we called skipping off from school - I think the English called it truant?

It usually involves dark lay-bys, strangers, and a bit of sexual Russian roulette by all accounts

Re: why do you like shooting?
To me this is a bit like asking "why do you like coffee/brunettes/certain colour or style cars?" There's something inside me that just says 'Yes'! Same with guns and there has been since i can remember. Yes there's the competition aspect (against other people, against yourself or against animals with superpower like senses) but there's just something in my psyche that makes me like guns and shooting.

Re: why do you like shooting?
I like shooting because it's a sport I can do! I spent most of my school days trying to get out of P.E., because I was a weedy so-and-so who didn't enjoy rugby! But shooting is something I took-to right from the get-go, when I tried it at my Uni's club! Everyone was super-friendly and very helpful and complimentary when I was just starting out.
Sometimes, I wish my school had offered clay or airgun shooting (I mean, it had archery and fencing, for goodness' sake!), but given the recent uproar over police granting Shotgun Licenses to under-12s, I don't think we need that kind of attention right now...
