30cm minimum barrel length - legal question.

#1 Post by safetyfirst »

Hello.

So, a section one rifle barrel has got to be 30cm chamber to muzzle, If I understand that right (start and end of chamber notwithstanding, not important for this debate)

Is a permanently attached (welded) muzzle device like an integral muzzle brake treated as part of that 30?

I'm trying to make a custom rifle as a project and I'd like to make sure I'm not falling foul of the law!

Whatever I end up with will be sent to proof of course so it's vital to firm up the legal side before I start building anything.

Any advice from people who know the letter of the law would be appreciated!

Yes an intergral, permanently fixed "barrel extension", be that flash eliminator, brake or moderator forms part of the overall length.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Thanks sim, Don't suppose you've got a reference have you?

Also thanks to Badger for making the effort to ensile envy in me without the convenience of opposable thumbs to type with.
