I quite like the idea of a mixed bag, it makes it more interesting if some herbert appears with a Nagant carbine and wakes everyone up with their flamethrower impressions.

(means more open pickings for case scroungers like me as well but less said....I am still after som e7.7mm jap....) To be honest I am more looking forward to seeing the better established shots shoot as well as giving it a ruddy good bash myself.

Nothing wrong with having an inclusive spirit as long as folk dont start shouting foul over mag capacities etc or trying to argue they should take all awards as they are the only gay in the village....I can see that you need enough in a class to make it a comp.

Do we have a class for a mad mud wrestling Irish Gun plummer with a No4(T)

Would the "all comers" be interested in a separate day?

Come to that, would the Enfield crowd be interested in a one-off day of shooting at full-size Figure targets? I may have a cunning plan...

Been a busy morning but I can confirm that the NRA will be running a Classic Service Rifle Match at Bisley in early October.
The Match Conditions and course of fire are in the process of being ratified.
What I can tell you is that it will be open to all Service Rifles of the WW1 and WW2 era. Rules for all rifles will be the old Service Rifle (a) of 1955, which means a rifle 'as issued' no target sights, no slings, no scopes. These rules will be rigidly enforced.
Competitors will be required to mark targets. There will be no paid markers.
Distances are likely to be 100,200 and 300 in prone,standing,sitting and kneeling positions. Targets are likely to be Fig 11 and Fig12.
For those that are interested in what the courses of fire may be, I suggest that you look in a Bisley Bible under Service Weapons-Individual and look at the matches for distances of 100/200/300 as they may give you a clue of the likely format.

When the format is finally sorted I will open a new thread.

On the subject of the comps I received an email from Peter Cottrell this morning with the new Service Rifle Definitions 2014 for the Phoenix.

That's one of the many things that I have been working on over the Winter for the NRA. The .303 class has been removed and it is now a generic service rifle competition for all service rifles together in three easy to manage classes with non of the vagaries of previous years. Hopefully more people will enter with the new match classifications.

I would have loved to have seen Moisin Nagents (after all everyone says they shoot so well!) .

Dunno about that but the carbines are bloody spectacular. I shot one a few weeks back. When it fisrt went off I thought Dan teh Man had blown himself up (I was in the SS Carpark....thats Short Siberia not the CNC...although they do use it...cripes...who knew? clapclap )

There was this bloody great flash and a boom.....Brilliant
