Re: Historic NRA CSR 4th April 2015
The match that was run last year was intended to be an all inclusive match for service rifle as issued. It was intended that it would not matter wether your rifle held 5 or ten rounds, the timings were set so that no one would be disadvantaged. The reality was that all the people who had pushed to include this rifle or that rifle did not show. Of the 51 competitors, there were only 7 non Enfields broken down into 2 X P14( one was me though the results say I used a No4), 2 X Swedish Mauser, 2 x 03 Springfield and one Lebel. Where were all the other Service Rifles? The most numerous rifle was the No4. There were only 9 SMLE. I would have loved to have seen Moisin Nagents (after all everyone says they shoot so well!) Gewer 98s, Schmit Rubens etc but they just didn't show.
After last years failure to turn up by the persons who pushed to have this match for all rifles (quite possibly the HBSA members), I can quite understand why it is now only for Enfields.
They had their chance and let it slip through their fingers....

Re: Historic NRA CSR 4th April 2015
so certain people who made a lot of noise for their choice didn't turn up? did it actually make it less of a match? again, I wasn't aware of the match until quite a while afterwards, and I am sure I am not alone,if the admin is onerous, then is there a problem in shooting the match as originally envisaged? or is it just another case of the elitism and "them and us " that seems to be rife in some parts of the shooting fraternity ?Steve E wrote:The match that was run last year was intended to be an all inclusive match for service rifle as issued. No elitism here and I just don't get where you think it is elitist.
This current match, following a sucessful the trial match last year, has had the classes reassessed by the organisers to better reflect what occurred at the last match based on the evidence that the majority of competitors turned up with Enfields. What is elitist about that?

As John MH says, nothing elitist about it. The match was publicised on the NRA website and on the NRA Face book page.
If you had previously entered the Phoenix meeting or the Trafalgar meeting and had given the NRA your e-mail address you would have been contacted.
In my view the NRA did all it could to publicise the event. The fact that you were not aware is not the NRAs fault.
The NRA website is very easy to navigate, just go on the Upcoming Events or Latest News and all is revealed. You don't even need to register to view the website.

I've been very encouraged by the number of club members and others who are entering this year, should be a fun day out.
I believe LERA will be issuing their members with marksmanship badges dependent on the scores they get.

Tony, I believe the correct expression would be "I am going to whoop your asses!". That is unless the whipping of peoples bottoms is a Bisley thingmag41uk wrote:I am in with my No 4.

...I take it that the non-Bisley NRA ranges will be offering a similar competition for us non-Home Counties before long?
NRA ranges such as....er, or..., erm.....
Pity such things always seem to happen in the London area.
An 800+ miles round trip kills of the chances of my being able to enter; I'm probably not alone in being hampered by the distance, it's a big pity this new event is another Bisley calender event & not viable to the majority of shooters.
It'd be good to see more P 14's entering the next match too!

Get your one of your local clubs to put a match on, its not to difficult just needs someone to commit to putting in the effort.
I'm running a match next Sunday, its not an NRA match its a HRA Match. Admittedly its at Bisley but I could have equally organised it at any Range that I have access to or that would be prepared to host it. I chose Bisley because I can get pretty much guaranteed range space and I have run matches there before, its still a 200 mile drive for me but I'm prepared to put the time in and have the support of other club members as well as a very understanding other half.
