Hi,
I have both LEE and RCBS but these are full length dies which I have use/used in the past, only recently got a Hornady .30cal custom grade neck sizer die seems to work ok on the few I have reloaded.
I had a good look at the SVD's that were for sale as well, not sure you will find a new one as they are not being imported as the trade embargo with Russia, so may have to look for second hand and that means prices will go up.

I should have updated this ages ago, the Soviet laminate is all sorted and fitted along with an original Soviet ribbed receiver cover and she shoots like a dream.Since my last post I've also aquired a 4-12x42 1pn21 pancratic scope which is now zeroed and ready for a session at Sennybridge. It turns out this was the last SVD that came into the country just prior to KalashnikovConcern taking over and I believe none have come in since.

With original PSO-1 scope

1pn21 fitted

1pn21 compared to PSO-1, the sunshade on the 21 is extended in the pic

I'm drooling.... did you have to bring this thread up again....
I spent this evening searching for an SVD for sale in the UK and found none!
I shall proceed to throw my toys out of the cot.

He had two, one with wooden furniture and one with black plastic, I bought the wooden one on Sunday - sorry!Hoverfly wrote:Nice,
Was looking at a SVD on the suffolk rifle stand at the shooting show last weekend, phone them up Monday to buy it and they sold it.....:(
New I should have bought it!
Whats the 7.62x54r round like to reload?
Hoverfly
I wonder if he sold the black one after I'd gone - although he did say that he wish he had kept the one I bought, so maybe the black one didn't go after all; he's just hanging onto it?

Least it's gone to a good home. "through gritted teeth" :)
What's the difference between the SVD and the SVDS apart from the obvious longer barrel and stock? I read somewhere they were re-engineered to accommodate the folding mechanism.

Mr Yeti is not ammused...he sez proper DMR bang-sticks should operate as designed & take standard unit issue ammunition & normal STANAG magazines.
He is not keen on Rusian wood either...gives him wind; plus he only likes English walnut & solid steel receivers, not wobbly tin roof sheeting & clock springs.

SVDS has a shorter barrel that is 1mm thicker than the SVD barrel, the receiver is slightly thicker and the rear of the receiver is different to accommodate the folding stock mechanism and the pistol grip. The SVDS is actually heavier than the SVD.Hoverfly wrote:Least it's gone to a good home. Saddler......the SVD was the worlds first purpose built DMR and both the SVD and SVDS do have solid milled steel receivers and no "tin" involved (unlike the Romanian PSL), they share no parts at all with a Kalashnikov and do use standard unit ammunition, just not NATO units!.And if we were treated like adults it would have a functioning gas system as designed but you make do with what you've got.As for Mr Yeti.........I wouldn't trust an animal that will eat its own feet!
