Not wanting to teach anyone how to suck eggs, but it's really important that if you're not 100% confident and safe with any of the weapons on offer over there, that you ensure you are adequately supervised. I've genuinely seen some horrific safety behaviour on ranges over there, more often than not tourists who've no firearm experience at all.

I usually visit every year and try to align my visits with the other attractions around Orlando, so make sure you research their locations.

The three I go back to are:-

East Orange shooting sports. http://www.eastorangess.com
I go out of my way to shoot here, a good selection of weapons to choose from, very professional staff and a decent shop.

Oakridge http://www.oakridgegunrange.com
Usually shoot here at some point when on holiday. Some staff are attentive, others dismissive, again a decent shop and selection of weapons.

Shooting gallery http://www.shootinggalleryrange.com
The only place I've used over there that hires out full auto weapons. Usually run a $50 special for 50 9mm rounds through a machine gun, but also hire other weapons.

Machine guns America has only just opened. http://www.machinegunamerica.com
Looks like it could be interesting, but I've yet to visit.

Be safe and have a great time!

One other thing to note, some US ranges are introducing bans on solo shooters, you bring someone with you or no play time. Don't know how widespread that policy is but the ones near to where I'm going in LA have this.
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

hey all!

Charlotte, that policy is country wide as far as I can tell, i've been in California, South Carolina, Massachussetts and Rhode Island and it's the same story when traveling alone... no-go.

Thanks for the advice today guys.

Theres not many gun's I'm not proficient or comfortable with, i have a good understanding of most, even those I have never handled, but today was a walk in the park.

Ended up going to Oakridge and found some of the attentive and friendly members of staff. had a great old time starting my brother off on 9mm Glock, then to my personal favorite, the 1911 .45acp, and finally onto the .357 snub nosed revolver.

It was my first time shooting a revolver, but took to it like a duck to water. I have to say though, it certainly wouldn't be what I'd go for myself. The grin factor is there, but theres ways to get it without having a battered hand when you come off the range.

Anyways, for those interested, I collated the video that I took on the range, mostly of my brother and Father, but theres a video of me with the .357 on my blog;

Thanks again guys!

Might try and check out another range before I leave if we get chance between theme parks! :)

I've shot full auto and handguns visiting ranges alone in Arizona and Nevada. Just needed ID/Passport.

Glad to see your having fun and yeah handguns are lots of fun. The sore hand thing goes away after a time, I shoot handguns out back here at least three times a week so it's just a matter of time and building up strength. One way of relieving the stress of recoil is using the stance I prefer called the Weaver stance, I find it much better for handling recoil on handguns as opposed to the straight on Isosceles stance.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation lollol
