FAC Application
Good Afternoon All,
The time has come to complete my first FAC application and i have a couple of questions;
I am just starting out with .22 rimfire for target so do I need to put .22 on for each gun I wish to purchase or just once? I am planning on getting 1 bolt action and 1 semi auto.
Also would I then have to put on it 2 x .22 moderators as a fire arm? What is a sensible amount of ammo to hold for a .22 on my first application?
I look forward to your help.
Matty

Re: FAC Application
Every rifle (and mod) needs to be applied for separately.
You want to apply for 2x .22RF rifles, the fact that you "want" a bolt action and a semi auto doesn't need to be put on the slots, but it would make sense to mention it in your covering letter and/or when you have the FEO meeting.
It might be prudent to put down for 2x .22RF moderators too, depending on your range circumstances. This suggestion will probably cause more argument on here than with your FEO. EDIT: Misread your OP. Yep, moderators need to go on separately as slots too.
Ammunition wise is a little harder to suggest, have a read through the link in my signature. I'd suggest anywhere from 1000-2000 rounds (plus a small margin) as inevitably your two rifles will prefer different ammunition, you want to be able to buy minimum of 500 at a time for half decent consistency, plus a little extra so you don't have to run out before you can buy more. This depends to an extent on your level of shooting/competition, amount of ammunition usage and your FEO/FLO policy.
I'm not sure about your club situation but I'd suggest "future proofing" your application to some extent WRT firearms you may acquire in the near-mid future.

Re: FAC Application
I agree with the above.
Regards ammunition, I went a whole year without being able to get my preferred brand and as a consequence my performance in competitions suffered as my gun chewed spat and spluttered it's way through what was available.
I understand small bore target shooters buy several thousand at a time to get round this and ensure box consistency.
Try 5000 to hold and 2000 to purchase,

Re: FAC Application
DM don't forget the rules on ammunition have just changed i.e. There is no purchase/ hold anymore it is just a total to hold.
I'll prepare to be corrected though.

Re: FAC Application
It IS just hold now. I've been in the odd position that I hold a current old style FAC and a renewed FAC due to commence mid month. I can still only buy 500 a pop until my new FAC commences - then I can buy the full 1000. Seems a little silly under the circumstances.

Re: FAC Application
For hold you may decide to buy in bricks of 1000 so it is worth asking for say 1200 or 1500 so you do not have to run your stock to zero before buying more.
Re: FAC Application
I was advised to ask for 1500, was granted 1200. I was also advised to ask for 5 rifles plus 2 mods as that's what my cabinet would fit and once you have a slot it's easy enough to change the calibre. As you can shoot pistol calibre at your club why not request one or 2 of those. While it's not a "Shopping List" as some like to say, you can't buy without the relevant slot so you may as well be covered rather than have to submit variations whenever you want to try something new.
I would suggest (if your safe is large enough) 3x.22LR(RF if your FLO allows it) 2x pistol calibre,2x moderator, x1500 .22, x500 .38spl or whatever pistol calibre you go for. Others may disagree but that's what worked for me and others in my club.
