David, don't listen to those who know not what they are talking about, just because they haven't found it on the internet doesn't mean that it isn't so.

I've done dozens of stocks through a dishwasher with no problems or warping, it is quiet a common practice amongst restorers I know.

The small handheld steamers are very good at bringing ingrained oils and grease to the surface, and they also help with raising dents, too. :good:

Adam, how long do you allow for the wood to dry afterwards, I should imagine it dries fairly quickly because of the heat of the process however I would be interested to hear your findings.

The wood is pretty dry when it comes out, over night is usually enough for me to start working it.

Would the paint stripper idea raise black soot from a muzzleloader rifle stock around the hammer nipple area?

The paint stripper helps break the surface layers, then the dishwasher does a deep clean.

I left the wood for a few days after the cleaning before working on it however I would agree left over night or a couple of days would probably suffice. It is an impressive way or stripping wood back to the natural surface.

I won't be able to use the dishwasher unfortunately as the stock is a 2 band enfield so is to long, shame though I would like to try that.
What did you use to finish the stock overpaa?
