a new project... Sten rebuild
I got an email from a friend today, he has received his latest project, a de-milled Sten, I will try and keep this updated as it progresses, as I am sure there will be interested parties.

Nice (looks like a Longbranch) Mk2 Sten, I would guess your mates in the US then looking at the destroyed gas cut receiver.
They are interesting firearms, despite what some say they were effective and reliable selective fire SMG's, the poor quality magazines caused most of the issues, loading 28 rounds instead of 32 relieved most of the feed issues apparently.
I have refurbished a few old spec deactivated mk2 and mk3 Stens in the past, they are a fascinating subject for study.

yup he's in Virginia if memory serves,I think he got bored building AR's and wanted something a bit different, my understanding is that it is going to be rebuilt as a semi not selective fire.huntervixen wrote:Nice (looks like a Longbranch) Mk2 Sten, I would guess your mates in the US then looking at the destroyed gas cut receiver.

from a Brit point of view, pages like this are a revelation!
Re: a new project... Sten rebuild
...the difficulty of the rebuild process seems to centre around the conversion from open bolt firing to closed bolt, in order to meet ATF rules.
Have seen the kits before. Would be a good way to make up a blank firer for reenactment.
The best ones I've seen were the rebuilt Finnish kp/31 & the Swedish m/45
Interesting that they also do the sten kits for the German MP3008 variant.

I've fired a converted 'semi' one in Canada, it still managed three round bursts.
It did feel like it was about to blow up at any minute though.

The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

Here's a few pics of a very nice Fazakerley assembled Mk2 I restored a while back, it has the post war stapled (28rd restricted) magazine, Finnish Army mod perhaps?
The barrel shroud and barrel have been carefully pinned on this example to prevent removal, but it is still possible to find early deacs that fully dismount.
