Barrel length

I'm not saying it won't work! My 12-twist is apparently too slow for the 168 Hybrids that put me ahead of you , but the point is that latest info suggests a faster twist will help, so if you're rebarreling or buying a new rifle, it's something bear in mind.

Everything that I've read from American sources has validated my previous assumption... a twist rate faster than 1:12 is required for optimum efficiency.

I appreciate that this site is American (link below), however, much of the information is relevant. There's much more to shooting than our very limited (typically slow + deliberate) shooting disciplines of TR, F-TR, F-Class, etc.

Interesting that there's a trend for 6mm and 6.5mm. 6mm Creedmoor being the most dominant cartridge in 2014.

The other posts relating to actions, etc, are also very interesting.

This is a great blog but it is mainly dealing with tactical/sniper matches. However, it's interesting to see how the 6mm has taken over from the 6.5mm cartridges this year. The 6.5x47 and 260 Rem have long been favored by the tactical guys, having good ballistics out to 1000 yards and will fit a std. mag.

Personally, I love the little 6mm cartridges - accurate, nice to shoot, cheap to run - what's not to like? The 6PPC, 6x47, 6mmBR, 6XC are all great little rounds.

I had exactly the same problem, here's what I did::

A "donor" cheapo Tikka M595 22-250 ex-foxer (£270 at local gunshop.)
32" Walther 6.5mm barrel blank (£300)
A GRS adjustable Hunter stock for the M595.(£300 second hand......part exchanged for the original donor walnut stock)
Barrel work by Mik Mak, including re-profiling the blank to fit the M595, (it was about 4mm too fat at the receiver end) and threading the muzzle.
Barrel finished at 30"
Moderator borrowed (also fits my Blaser)
There are a couple of bits of "Bling", bolt handle and shroud, just for the hell of it..........

I have a B&M 2-stage trigger on it at the moment, having put the original donor trigger on my 223.

The result? A 1/2 MOA rifle for around £1400...........and the GRS stock is to die for...........a bit "over-barrelled" perhaps, but it shoots.

I have solved my problem, all be it at considerably more cost than you solved yours! I guess I must be mad but......

I have bought a Accuracy International AXMC. It will be supplied with two interchangeable barrels, both 26" long, one a .308 with 1 in 12 twist, the other a .260Rem with 1 in 8 twist. I just have to be patient now awaiting the return of my FAC with the 260 slot.
