Project 2A1 Rascal The saw and pencil come out.
This afternoon was officially time out for us at long last, so first job was to get the pencil and wood saw out and decide just what length to reduce the 2A1 to, I was not unduly worried by the barrel length as this is not a long range rifle however proportions were a priority so I had been playing with some some basic photo editing software and we had come up with this.
Next job was to translate the image to the rifle itself. The band will need to be moved back some 60,0mm/2-3/8" to allow the nose cap to come back to a reasonable position and this means not only chopping and profiling the wood, I also need to plug the existing hole for the inner band which is not a problem as it will be covered by the nose cap.
At the same time as all this I want to fit a more robust forend wood cross bolt and machine in a finger grip on either side hence the bits of mashing tape with various lines drawn on. The final proportions are very similar to that of a short Marlin 1894 and the barrel length will be 420,0mm/16.5" which will still give 2500fps with a 147 grain jacketed bullet and around 2750Joules/2000ft/lbs of muzzle energy assuming the jacket holds together.

I've always wanted to chop an Enfield to a 14/16" barrel....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Interesting David - looking forward to seeing how this develops. Not sure if I'd want to be next to you on the firing point with that short barrel however

Should look good
Hmmm, wonder what a Mosin M44 carbine with a 12" barrel would be like??!!

Horrible, and even nastier than the normal length M44 I shot next to a month or two back.snayperskaya wrote:Should look good![]()
