Essex Police takes guns from suspected domestic abusers
Essex Police takes guns from suspected domestic abusers
I looked at the story at lunchtime; the photographs on the ITV website had piles of old BB guns, air rifles, etcetera, the caption stated that the photos were supplied by Essex Police. Now it would appear that the guns have change http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2014-12- ... -suspects/
The story appears to be changing in terms of what was confiscated to the point one site has it as shotguns
http://www.essexchronicle.co.uk/Essex-P ... story.html
Could this be Essex Police like an anti-gun story?

Operation wishbone the stupid chief of police has been quoted Invesgating suspected domestic abausers even if they haven't been arrested ! This is totally bang out of order ! Guilty until proven innocent if you are a shooter !
The law needs changing so the police can only revoke if the holder has been convicted or sectioned ! Otherwise like we see here they can revoke for what ever they want !

Get a grip and listen to yourself. You have no idea of the real world and clearly no idea of what is involved in Domestic violence.joe wrote:Operation wishbone the stupid chief of police has been quoted Invesgating suspected domestic abausers even if they haven't been arrested ! To even get to a case to court involves a massive amount of work.
If there is a pattern of abuse or allegations then that is justification enough to remove firearms from an offender. Better to investigate a case of DV than murder.

I might not be right here but did the Hungerford and Dunblane shooters have criminal records?
I'm guessing not so should they have been allowed to keep their firearms then Joe?
The police are in a lose lose situation here. If they take guns away without a crime being committed then some shooters shout "police state". If people giving cause for concern, and domestic violence is a big cause for concern, don't have guns taken away the police are to blame for not acting quick enough,

The trouble is where does it stop? At least by drawing the line at "has committed a criminal offence" it's clear to everyone what will and won't get your ticket revoked.
Today it's unproven domestic violence allegations. Tomorrow what is it?
FWIW I don't think the police are wrong here, but the idea that we should suspend the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing just because we're shooters doesn't sit well with me.

I agree, with miliscer, Individual and quarters, if they have the reason to believe someone is committing domestic violence then they should be looking at their suitability for keeping firearms.
I have been a paramedic for 30 yrs (though not now, thank allah) and seen many a case of domestic violence from that side and as a forensic care practitioner (don't ask) , so I know what a difficult time the old bill have with this type of crime and it's associated social and family problems. If you wait until a woman is sufficiently afraid for her life that she agrees to press charges it is often too late.
We had a very bad case in Durham a couple of years ago of several women murdered by a known domestic (even convicted I think) abuser. After that Durham Constabulary got their panties well and truly in a bunch but who can blame them as everyone was shouting about his history and blaming them (they know what we feel like now) for some mad sadistic git killing his wife and mother in law.
We have a hobby, we should protect it but we are all still part of society and need to protect that as well.

Gaz, I know where you are coming from and don't disagree , the problem is that we need the police to be discriminating and use common sense, unfortunately that often doesn't happen and we end up paying the bill. But the community still needs protecting despite general police incompetence or malice.

Looks like an AK in one of the reports
The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

Moral of the story;
1/ Don't hit your partner
2/ Don't get into a relationship with someone who is malicious enough to falsely accuse you of hitting them. We all know someone with a relationship like that, and if you think you don't, you're probably 'the one' out of your group of friends!
