Nightforce 12-42 x 56 Benchrest

#1 Post by Quarters »

Hi Guys
I'm thinking of buying one of these scopes.

They only have 40moa of elevation which seems small to me. I shoot at Bisley mainly at 300 and 600 yards but I would like to shoot from 300 to 1000. The elevation rise form 300 to 1000 is 33 moa which means that when I mount the scope the 300 zero will need to be very close to the bottom of the elevation range. Will this scope work for me?

Thanks for any help.

If a scope has only 40MOA adjustment, you will, in theory, lose half of this when you mount it (assuming everything is correctly aligned). The trick is to use a 20 or 30 MOA scope-rail to 'recover' the lost elevation.
Third Eye Tactical make Picatinny rails with built-in taper for most modern rifles. Osprey Rifles keep a decent selection in stock.

Hi
Losing moa when I mount the scope is what I'm afraid of. Thanks for your help!

I have the 8-32, and I use a 20 moa base and Burris signature select rings for 10 more. The scope is nearly bottomed out but works nicely thereafter. My dislike is 6 moa per revolution on the turrets.

Not strictly on topic, but I have one of these mounted on a 20MOA rail:

It has 60MOA elevation adjustment. I zero at 200yd and need +38MOA at 1,000 yards.

I don't like winding a scope to the edge of its adjustment.

It's a fantastic scope.
