We know it's difficult, oomans, but...
Educate us: we're cogitatin' on a project that will possibly use a Tikka T3 Super Varmint as the base rifle, though in a different stock and with a few extra add-ons. How do you T3 SV owners rate them? Good ? Or would we be better served by spending a few more pennies and going down the Dolphin custom route? The project rifle could be either:
6.5x55 Swe, intended for use mainly at 300 & 600 mards, but capable out to 1000 mards, or
.338 Lapua, used at 600 and 1000 mards, sometime further.

OK Mr Mustelid - I rate the T3 pretty highly. Between us, my son (Blackburnbuccaneer) and I have three T3s - 2 Super Varmints (24" .300 WSM, and 20" .308) and a Sporter (20" .223 1:8).
The two Super Varmints have both been re-housed in aluminium chassis systems, the .300 WSM in an MDT Tac21 and the .308 in a KRG X-Ray.
There are numerous chassis options:
I'm not honestly sure if the T3 can be made to function with .338 LM, others more experienced members can perhaps confirm this, but only .338 Win Mag is available from the factory.
I think they're great boomsticks - very accurate and excellent value for money.

It was a lightweight MDT lightweight chassis system we had our eye upon, utilising the weight saved to allow fitment of a very heavy barrel. We must have misread the T3 specs, we thought it said they were made in .338 Lapua but on a second reading it says .338 WM

The MDT LSS is an excellent bit of kit - I note that RifleCraft have just taken on the UK Agency for MDT.
With regard to the .338 LM, I just don't know if the mag well and ejection port are long enough to handle the .338 LM, but you could get the same perfomance on a slighly shorter case, i.e. the .338 Edge wildcat.
The length of the bolt stroke can be extended by modifying the bolt stop, but I just don't know about the max o/a length of cartridge which the action can take.
I'd like a .338 LM one day, I see the Savage or Sako TRG as being the most viable possibilities (probably TRG 42) unless something else comes along.

I absolutely love my T3 super v!!!
It's amazingly accurate in standard form. I shoot 300,500,600,900 and 1000 on the odd occasion at Bisley and it's brill!
I'm sure there a few pics on here somewhere.
