dry Mosin woodwork question

#1 Post by snayperskaya »

The upper handguard on my 1939 M91/30 seems very dry and was wondering what I could use to "feed" it?.It has most of its original finish and I don't want to completely refinish it, just put some life back in it so to speak. What do you military rifle guys and girls use on your woodwork?.

I believe the original Russian wood reviver and protector was badger fat.

Ballistol works well on just about everything - wood, leather, metal etc etc. It might even cure Ebola. lol

Not a lot if you're preserving the shellac finish - could feed the wood with a little linseed oil, (I rather like it raw rather than boiled, but then I'm odd like that), or try a light once over with some 'gunnys past' (mix of beeswax/turps/boiled linseed oil - lots of info online on mixing some up if you're so inclined)
