cast boolit/die question

Please excuse my ignorance as never reloaded, but when reloading with cast Boolits do you use the same die as you would for a FMJ bullet?

I do and never had a problem. The only difference being that you will need an expander die to flare the case mouth prior to bullet seating.Please excuse my ignorance as never reloaded, but when reloading with cast Boolits do you use the same die as you would for a FMJ bullet?

Next question is does anyone cast 150gr .311" Boolits suitable for 54r and are moulds available in that size/weight?.
Is a lead boolit any more accurate than a FMJ, assuming the velocity etc is the same and they are fired in the same rifle?.

If your bore is .311 its normal practice to use a cast boolit slightly larger two though is a rule of thumb for .311 you could try .313 for instance. Cast boolits are just as accurate as jacketed. Yes you use the same set of dies but as blu said you need a expander die to flare/expand your case mouth so you don't shave lead of your boolit when you seat it. You can buy expanders separately. You don't normally use the same velocity for cast boolits as you do for jacketed you use different powders for cast as well. Keep asking questions and have a read up on it.

Alpha.The reason I'm asking is the Russians had a dedicated sniper round for the Dragunov (the 7n1 round) which are as rare as hens teeth but I'm toying with the idea of trying to replicate a round as close to it as I can but there doesn't appear to be a lot of choice when it comes to .311" 150gr FMJ bullets so a cast boolit may be an option.I've got about 300 once fired brass cases so it would be rude not to do something with them at some point.
