What do folks think about the Norfolk gamekeeper being given a 10-week suspended sentence today for poisoning 10 buzzards and a sparrowhawk?

This is the fourth suspended sentence this year for the same crime.
The estates need to be made responsible for their employees, and be heavily fined to prevent it happening...they make enough money (and that's what it's all about) from the shoots so there is no excuse for this appalling behavior.
Also, the increase in buzzards is directly connected to the increase in available food...what do they expect with thousands of extra pheasants added to the ecosystem!?

This type of activity puts law abiding shooters in a bad light.
The route cause of this problem is the ago old class divide.
Look at the list of landowners that signed up to be against poisoning birds of prey -

Yet I live in an area that has a terrible reputation for this.
The issue is (excuse the military phrase) implied tasks, the landowner doesn't actually tell the keepers to control raptors, but they do put them under a big amount of pressure to produce the biggest bags possible. I think for many keepers it's quite plain what's expected of them, and I very much doubt they are willingly committing wildlife crime, and opening themselves up for prosecution if they thought they didn't have to.
This is a sad reflection that even in these modern times the aristocracy literally does call the shots, gets away with it, and will continue to.
