The revival of the Whitaker thread reminded me of this different approach to a No4 trigger spring which does look like it would be adjustable for weight, one possible issue is the spring bears against the magazine release which is fine on a transitional build as the rifle will be single shot, less so on a rifle that still uses a magazine.
Has anyone come across or own any other Enfields with modified trigger systems? I know Huber do a modern blade however other than that I thought the preferred method of any tuning was very careful polishing of the bumps and possibly some sear work and that was about it.
SMLE and No4 trigger springs

Re: SMLE and No4 trigger springs
I've come across a few custom versions - either with allen screws in place of the "bumps" and/or a coil spring and tensioner in place of the Enfield spring (ie like your two photos).
I must admit that i always take them out and throw them away, replacing them with standard components.
Of course another - "factory original" - method to vary the trigger weight is to have two or more spring mounting grooves on the back of the magazine catch - as the L39A1 and Enforcer have.
