Herts Firearms Amnesty
Herts / Beds are having a firearms amnesty & have sent posters to all club Secs.
I wonder what they will get? a pile of non FAC junk or some good kit.
People pls do advise those that migth consider this - anything sent in is destroyed. If its a good air rifle that does not need an amnesty to dispose of - that a scout or club could use them - & there are people after them.
Also they can legit sell the sights, stock & parts & just hand in the barrel action bolt etc if needs.

Re: Herts Firearms Amnesty
Cleveland my Licensing authority are doing the same for two weeks anything firearm related or ammunition with no questions asked apparently. Im tempted to take a couple of black bin bags with my scrap brass just to see what kind of reaction I get.
Maybe not one of my better ideas.

Re: Herts Firearms Amnesty
Queue big, glossy pictures in the papers next week of "massive" hauls (of airsoft replicas and toy six-shooters). "We've taken these weapons of mass carnage off the streets for your protection".
Criminals won't hand them in though because they're 'criminals'...

Your not wrong there SevenSixTwo, I can just see it piles of pig iron toy guns (which are so dangerous) being taken off the streets to protect our childrens children and smirking Police Chiefs on TV. Hmmmm reminds me of a certain politician mentioning weapons of mass destruction and we know he was telling the truth don't we! It really does stink doesn't it?
Re: Herts Firearms Amnesty
In fairness, I'm all for amnesties. Why should johnny scrotebag have a handgun or a semi-auto rifle and not little old law-abiding me?
They're just not going to hand them in though. It's an excercise in faux public confidence.

Re: Herts Firearms Amnesty
Have nowt to do with them, they only help the media and police demonise your hobby. Donate to a club or get your RFD to scrap it in some way.
These "amnesty's" are a farce for all the reasons mentioned above. I saw one in the USA where they were offering $50 food vouchers, and were getting real scrap stuff, rusted junk mainly or "bitsas" that would never fire. However one smart bloke sat near the site with a sign offering $75 cash for anything half decent - the cops were not amused.
The wee tin of .177 pellets handed in by some granny alsong with a Lone Star cap gun will be touted as 500 rounds of (AK47) ammo and a killer death ray handgun ! Just enough to make the police look good, scare the public that wee bit more and get more calls for "something to be done"! Still if they set up near certain mosques, who knows what will come in? Well maybe not.

Political Correctness is the language of lies, written by the corrupt , spoken by the inept!
Re: Herts Firearms Amnesty
Pressure bearing parts are also still around in the hands of the unsuspecting, I saw three rifle bolts going for a fiver on eBlag recently, someone must have tipped the seller off as the auction was ended shortly afterwards.
Re: Herts Firearms Amnesty
I think plod keep a weather eye on ebay and the like precisely in case stuff like that pops up.
I also saw a "deactivated" SMLE bolt up for grabs a few weeks ago. You had to look very carefully at the angle of the cut to the locking lug to realise that it was potentially a live one!

Just a point.....as our deputy chief pointed out when the handguns were stolen.
"Its only an amnesty when you are unlawfully holding it", otherwise its a free disposal service.
Amnesty implies being let off of something tesnews
