The article seems to be bashing the police more than gun owners.

Yet another case whereby you'd have to conclude (based soley on what I've read in the press so could well be wrong) that yet again the licensing authorities have fu**ed up again.

I do feel a little sorry for the Police, they're going to get beaten up either way, perhaps it's time firearms licensing was taken away from them - such that they can provide the intelligence as to whether a certificate owner should | should not get a license, with the final decision made by another agency (Magistrates? HSE? A.N.other?)

This bit is pretty damning:
After his arrest, Surrey Police immediately referred this previous contact to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). They determined the force should conduct a supervised investigation into our decision to return the weapons.
'We commissioned two independent reports by firearms licensing experts from Hampshire Constabulary and North Yorkshire Police. The initial findings from both reports indicate the decision was flawed and did not meet national standards.
Perhaps the only saving grace in this whole tragedy, is that this is S2 shotguns - which in this country I'd argue that even those won't be banned anytime soon.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the victims' families turning up in the press calling for more GCN-style gun controls. One of the relatives of the people murdered in Cumbria started off being fairly equivocal about gun law immediately after the murders and then suddenly popped up again a couple of months later, having morphed into a rabid anti demanding changes to the law. I am certain he was coached to say what he was saying by either the GCN, ACPO, his local police force's PR department or some other group with an agenda, because his criticisms of the police had vanished to be replaced with vitriol against the concept of private firearms ownership.

He was successful, too - the decision to treat suspended sentences as time served, for the purposes of licensing, came about very soon after his numerous appearances in his local (regional) paper.

The thing is the police giving his shotguns back might of been justified ! We don't for what reason they were taken away in the first place ! We DONT won't a situation whereby the police are forced by law because of these sheeple crying to take away our guns on the rumours, bullshit, gossip etc sometimes there is no way of telling how one man is going to kill or not ! Maby his guns were taken away had nothing to with threats of violence who knows

Much of Europe have guns and are prob have less background checks or strict polices when it comes to issuing of liances ! It's amazing how the sheeple keep waining about America but fail to accpricate that Europe has a gun culture (of sorts) as well and it's not a crime ridden s***

Heard it reported on Radio 4 which suggested that the blame will be carried by the civilian FLOs not serving officers.

Two other police forces carried out independent reviews of the licensing issues and both were critical of the way it was handled.

Police have now released the desperate 999 call made by Lucy just moments after her mother was shot, in which she told the operator she was going to confront the gunman, adding: 'I'm gonna go back for him but I'll die.'

During the frantic call, Lucy told the operator Lowe had just shot her mother before saying she was 'running for her life'. Moments later she returned to Lowe and was fatally shot twice by him. kukkuk kukkuk kukkuk
How mentally retarded was she to do that - Darwin in action as far as she is concerned. Watching too many movies - best course of action in that situation: RUN!!!!!!! :run: :run: :run:

Of course the realtives start bitching, there's probably money in it for them. Certainly they are abused by the self righteous anti ghouls before the smoke has cleared and pretty well mindfcked to come out with the stuff they do! If the police or ACPO are behind it they are just as despicable as the cretin who pulled the trigger.

We have to undertand also that those who want only police and army to have guns have never read modern history!
