Is the front sight pressed and pinned like an AK sight?, if so they can be very very tight as they are fitted with a press.When the pins are removed the holes should be cleaned up as they can be burred and if you try to press the sight off without cleaning them up the burrs will mar the end of the barrel.They can also be a pain to refit, getting the sight square can take a bit of fiddling.

Edit.....just checked, they are pressed and pinned.

I don't know if you guys are aware of it but there is a good Vz58 subform on the AK section of ar15.com

Thanks for the info! The only video on Youtube i've found so far says to take the pins out and then soak the front end inc. the front sight in a bath of kerosene for a few days.... As my cabinet is in my bedroom and the gun would have to be in the cabinet to soak, i'm not sure that would be too pleasant or safe....

I've just fitted the magwell adaptor to mine today, as I do have an old Colt M4 mag that I can try it out with. The plastic magwell did feel a bit flimsy when it was in the packet but is rock solid once it is fitted in place.

The more I look at these the more I want one! But there's just no info on the website. What are the options? Barrel length, cals, stocks, forends, scope mounts ......

I think there is a website update due soon but they have just been too busy lately. The VZ58 MARS is a really great rifle and Scott said there are more upgrades for it in the pipeline. The customer care is good too and I'd recommend them to anyone.

Are these vz58's just as good as the ar's, hk, fals etc ?
Are these rifles Built from all new parts and not with supplus parts?

Would be be nice to to have the original Iron sights (rear and front) removed and fitted with a more Morden flip up iron ones mounted on a pictinny rail

You'd need to define what you meant by 'good' to answer the first question, especially considering the wide variety of rifles you want to compare it against!

They're built from all new parts.

You can't mount a continuous picatinny rail on these guns because of the size of the ejection port and as they eject brass directly upwards!

You can however get rear recevier covers and front handguard covers with picatinny rails which would permit you to put any type of iron or red dot sight on the gun. The only thing you have to be careful with is optical sights as because the gun ejcts upwards you can't fit a scope that goes over the ejection port. I may have read somewhere about a brass deflector you can fit which does allow you to mount long optics but i've never seen one in action.
