Fitting a Harris bipod on a Lee enfield No4.

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

I have been asked to post some pictures of my modified sling swivel that I use to attach a harris bipod to a Lee enfield No4 I think this method might also work for the smle.
What is important is that you get the correct thickness of leather spacer that goes between the wood and the bipod to take up the slack. The sling swivel is a loose fit on the barrel band.
Any way here we go. I will post more pictures when the batteries for my camera are charged but for now.
The modified sling swivel.

The rifle a very nice No4 fitted with a no gunsmith scope mount.

The barrel band screw that needs to be removed to fit the swivel.

More pics I will post the rest later when the camera batteries are charged. This is the piece of leather with a hole punched out to fit over the swivel it needs to be the right thickness to take up any play.

The rifle is resting on the Harris bipod on the floor beside me waiting to have its photo taken. Time to fit the bipod from start to finish ten minutes.
To return it to normal set up literally ten minutes.

That's it hope it helped and I hope you get fixed up if you do decide to have a go just remember the thickness of the leather spacer is important to take up any play.

I have removed the bipod and put everything back to normal and the rifle is now tucked up in its cabinet with the rest of its buddies.

Normally I scream in horror whenever anyone mentions modern attachments and No.4s, but that looks pretty neat and doesn't damage the rifle, either. Is the modified swivel a custom-made piece?

I'm currently working on version 2. Version two does away with the piece of leather between the stud and the barrel wood. I'm using a different material that gives a better and a more secure fit of the bipod. If any one would like to post a picture of a smle front end showing the front barrel band and if you could post the length of the screw that goes through the band that would be good.
