I bought a Vortex 20-60x80 earlier this year, very pleased with it.

I use an Optolyth, only because it was second hand and good.

Keep an open mind, Kowa, Vortex, Nikon and a host of others are all very good. As an optical dealer I can tell you that there is a lot of badge engineering in this industry! :o :squirrel:

I originally bought a cheap one (£100-ish) but then soon regretted it.

If you're going to use a spotting scope, you really need one that is capable of showing you want you want to see!

I've looked through Kowas and they are very good. In the end, when I decided I needed a quality scope, I went for a Nikon ED-82, which I don't think they make anymore, but any of the big objective Nikons should be just as good. Whatever you decide on, make sure you get a wide angle eyepiece, as it's much more useful to see adjacent targets.

It depends on what you want to spend on a scope, verses how much you expect to see at distance.

I have a 25-75x90 Praktica spotting scope and can easily read a car number plate at half a mile.
Bought new on-line for £103 delivered.
