so basically that is saying that it is only for use for practical shooting, and if you satisfy that requirement, then you automatically get an additional condition of also being able to use it for clays?
i know that the condition that they read out to me was worded differently as it made no mention of instructors, but did mention bwss and two other organisations.

Correct on both counts- it was page 3 I meant, and your understanding of the effect is correct; clay shooting is an automatic condition.

Firearms dept in "making it up as they go along" shocker. I guess in your case the BWSS/other orgs are more appropriate than the UKPSA, but last time this came up I'm sure it was mentioned that this wording has been changed (again!). Possibly worth doing a search.

My S1 shotgun is lumped under the "may be used for target shooting" condition with my rifles, FWIW. That might not fly with UKPSA.

Just ask them to put the clay pigeon condition on your FAC and you're good to go. I originally got my first S1 shotgun for pest control. Simply because i got that first doesn't (and didn't) prevent me from then getting PSG/target and then clay pigeon conditions added to my certificate so i could also use the gun(s) for that too. As long as the clay ground is ok with you using an S1 shotgun (and most are providing you only load 2 carts at a time), then there shouldn't be an issue.

he told me that my shotgun NEEDED its own condition to be able to use it, and that it not having it included was a mistake. but you say yours is the same as mine at present. do you have any issues with using it anywhere?

It's fine for what I use it for. I have no idea whether it'd be accepted by a UKPSA type organisation; from memory of the exact wording I'd argue my conditioning would cover use at a practical event (as surely a "course of fire" is a range and acceptable insurance would be in place). However, from what I've seen, S1 shotguns seem to be treated by many as some mythical type of firearm. I suspect this is, at least in part, due to several organisations becoming redundant if my interpretation was to be accepted.

Zane - The mythical/grey status of S1 shotguns has got absolutely nothing to do with any shooting organisation. Its due to the pi$$ poorly thought out and worded Firearms Act 1988, simple as that.

The UKPSA has worked along side the police and other shooting organisations to get the newly worded condition that includes NTSA, BWSS etc etc also included in the condition i.e. to make it as inclusive as possible. It would have been prefered that S1 shotguns did not get 'special' treatment in terms of conditions but until the legislation is rewritten the police/FELWG refuse to budge :roll:
