Handgun Supply to Northern Ireland

#1 Post by Death2Ticks »

As a new Member here I posted an introduction in the Welcome section. I mentioned moving from England to Northern Ireland and discovering that handguns were never banned here so have taken-up shooting them again. However, I want to re-create the large collection I previously had before I had to hand them all in. Many of the examples I'm after are (obviously) rare as hens' teeth these days but some good examples are often available from the big deactivation firms in England. I contacted a couple of these firms proposing purchases of fully-functioning (pre-deact) items only to be told "it wasn't company policy."

Clearly, I outlined to them that handgun ownership and use in Northern ireland was legal and that any purchase & transfer would be through FADs authorised to ship here but they weren't interested. They did confirm that they had stocks of fully functioning firearms awaiting deactivation but wouldn't supply them.

Seems a shame that they're missing out on a fare bit of trade in NI - there's a very large and active shooting community here - but, from my point of view some fine handgun examples are destined for the knackers yard.

So what am I left with? Trying to build a facsimile of my original collection via the nightmare of sourcing from the USA and getting 'stiffed' on taxes/duties, freight, permissions from all & sundry. Even obvious alternatives in Blighty, like the www.classicguncompany.co.uk seems to have gone quiet.

I have seen Holts selling some very nice Section 5 hand-guns at their auctions.

LOTS of such items freely sold at the auctions I attend in Sweden & Finland

Less of a hurdle (no ITAR) than trying to source from the land of the big PX
